29-10-2009 - flu shot i need your help

My mood while writing this blog:
confused!

i dont know what to do....my MIL id freakin driving me UP THE WALL about getting Brayden the flu shot but i personally dont think he should be exposed to the doctor or hospital or whatever if he doesnt have to, not only that but he has a little monor cold right now and they say if they are sick in any way that their immune system is down and that its dangerous to give them the shot. but i dont want him to get sick, and then ANOTHER disagreemant i have is I personally do not get the flu shot....i got it ONE time and had a HORRIBLE reaction and seriously thought i was going to die i was SOOOOOOO sick so i have NEVER gotten it again and that was seriously like 10 years ago and i have not had the flu since.....so i dont know if i want brayden to have it, but should i!??!?! WHAT SHOULD I DO!?!??! please tell me how you feel whether you agree with me or not i need to know what i should do and i need advice......this is for BOTH the flu and the H1N1!!!!!

Hey thought Id respond to this:) We all in our household got the seasonal flu shot...yet Aidyn couldnt get the booster due to availability. But we will most likely be getting the h1n1...I ...just like you...have weighed this issue for a while now. but a few good points Ive read. I would also rather get us the h1n1 than come down with it and get seriously sick. Keep in mind the shot is the dead virus...and I also watched a 60minutes on the h1n1 and a dr. had stated that just parts of the virus (dead) are in the shot...enough to give your body a fighting chance against it. Also my hubby as you know is in Iraq and the military is doing the shots MANDATORY. So everyone can have their thoughts about it...but were giving it to our military so I cant imagine it being all that bad...(also pregnant women and children, people with health issues are first concern)...so unless someone has a Phd ....dont take everyones opinion to much...talk with pedi...and your hubby..then make a decision. We'll be getting ours as soon as it hits our pedi's office...(next week sometime)....Good luck:)

Your pediatrician will not give flu vaccine if your son is sick at all. It is a myth that you get sick from the flu shot, you may however get the virus from the nasal which is a live virus. If your body is already fighting something however you MAY come down with something after the flu shot.. I give my oldest flu shot (have since he was 6 months old) due to asthma. However, i am fighting the same battle with tyler who is my 9 month old. I havent had anything win me over as to why or why he shouldn't get the H1N1 or the regular flu vaccine. He does not go to daycare. Also, with the swine flu vaccine my boyfriend has pointed out to me that if tyler was to die from the virus, we would rather know we did all we could including the vaccine than known that the vaccine was out there but chose not to give it to him.

As for the H1N1...its still in test stages. They are not even sure of the side effects so I would definitly hold off on that one. If Brayden is a generally healthy baby with no underlying illnesses there is no need for a swine flu shot in my opinion.

I dont think there is any need hun. I will not be giving it to Ryan anyway. I have never had it myself but I feel we get enough shots already with Meningitis and all those other ones...is there really a need for the flu jab??? Just tell your mil that you got it done to get her off your back. I find its easier to lie than argue as they always know best (NOT)

i think its unnessesary....not wrh it..your better of just stayin home..and away from hospitals...me nore my son will be getting the vaccine....any of them :)

If you or your child were to get the seasonal flu it might keep you indoors for a while, maybe the hospital but you will fight through it. It's one of those things where it can get severe, but it may not. I still got the flu shot, just in case. As for the swine flu, one of the side effects is DEATH, you really could die. But if you get the vaccine, death is not a side effect. I haven't got mine yet, but me and my son have appointments. Just in case. I've said before, I think if I got the swine flu I could pull through it, but I don't think my 7 month old son could. I would feel responsible if he got it and passed or was just in the hospital. Children often do take a turn for the worse so better safe than sorry. This is not an easy decision, Good Luck!!!

I got the flu shot, and the h1n1 shot. I am not going to risk me or my little bundle of joy. She will be getting them as well if deemed necessary...do a little bit of research, I dont think it would hurt him to get it, or you. :) xoxo

Im feeling the same way, im usually sooo against the flu shot, and medicating people when its not nessicary, but there is so much hype about the h1n1 shot, all you see on the media is all these horror stories, it does worry me, but i plan not to take Keleb out in public this winter, I still havent totally decided if Im going to get it, since I have asthma they say you should get it, but it worries me that I could have a reaction as well... good luck sorry I have no advise...

Well Xavier is 8 months old and he had a flu shot. He did fine with his, actually better than he does with his normal vaccines. They no longer give babies the actual virus like they used to so I saw nothing wrong with it. They give his shot in 2 doses so he goes back in 4 weeks for the next dose. This was just a regular shot, not the H1N1 vaccine (that is not available at his pediatrician's office yet) but when it is available I'm considering having him vaccinated for that also. I am so afraid of him getting sick so I felt like it was the right thing to do. I know how you feel so the decision is totally up to you. Just from my own personal experience there was nothing to it.
