18-5-2009 - Specialist Visit exhaustedMy mood while writing this blog:
exhausted

Hi Everyone. It has been a very long day. We went to a specialist appointment about 5 hours from where we live. The good news is that Mark's heart looks good (high risk for heart defects). We are still anxiously awaiting 28 weeks so we can start having ultrasounds twice a week. This is to look for any stress on the baby and pull the baby if it has to be done to prevent stillbirth. We are still facing a 50/50 shot at stillbirth, but can't do much about it until we hit the magic 28 weeks. This is when it is deemed delivering the baby showing distress out weighs the problems with a premature birth. I keep praying we make it another 4 weeks.

Our 3 year old daughter had some testing done today as well to see if her speech delays are a genetic abnormality or just something to do with her as her blood sugar at birth plummeted to 17 (no, it's not a misprint). If it's genetic, Mark very likely could have it. If not, it was probably due to her blood sugar taking a dive shortly after birth and trying unsuccessfully to bring it back up with a bottle and feed tubes (eventually, doctors had to do an IV in the cord stump to keep her alive). Thankfully, the doctor this time has agreed to do an IV in the cord stump immediately after birth instead of trying a bottle or feeding tubes.

I wanted to say thank you to everyone for your kind support throughout this stressful time. We have a long road ahead, but you all make it just a bit easier. Thank you and I truly appreciate all of you.
