29-4-2009 - exercise questions happyMy mood while writing this blog:

During my whole pregnancy i've been walking on my treadmil for an hour about 4 times a week. Would it be safe to still do this, or should i only walk for 30 minutes? I really dont want to stress out the baby, or overwork myself. Im not going to drop for a while so I have trouble breathing after awhile so when that happens i just slow down. Should I stop when this happens? Also am i burning away too many calories. I dont want my baby to starve if that could happen.
Im sorry if this sounds stupid but i really dont want to be doing damage. Im walking to have an easier time i guess loosing the weight after. And i eat crispy mini's atleast once a week and i eat alot of potatos and pasta so walking burns that off. If anyone could help me out that would be great.

I exercised all the way through my last pregnancy. You can walk until you deliver, in fact the closer you are to your baby's due date the more likely it will help bring on labor. I doubled my exercising at 36 weeks adding a second walk each night just to urge my son to come early. BUT I do know that if you are having pain or raising your heart rate too much you should stop or tone it down. Obviously I'm not a doctor but check with yours just to be sure of anything...

If you have trouble breathing, then decrease your speed and your incline so that you can exercise comfortably. Other than that, you're on the right track! Keep exercising as long as it feels good to do it! Your baby is happy in there and *will* gets its nutrition, even if you aren't eating well. That said, keep eating well too!

Hi. I would definitely ask the doctor, but I think as long as you don't have any pain or aren't gasping for air you are actually doing a good thing by exercising. Ask the doc how much at your next appointment but one hour 4 days a week sounds ok as long as you aren't going to hard. Good luck!

i would actually advise you yo keep walking. its definatly healthy for you and the baby as long as you arent over doing yourself. if you have trouble breathing or get over heated slow down. not only is walking safe but it is encouraged during pregnancy. i did an hour of cardio (and ate whatever i wanted) 6 days a week thru my whole pregnancy and had a 9lb 12oz healthy boy so it duznt starve them. talk to your doc if you are concerned but im sure they will tell you to go ahead and keep moving. It will aid in an easier delivery as well and the weight will go to all the right places and come off much easier too. Congrats and good luck!
