09-9-2009 - More Money! Hopefully Less Stress!

So my fiance was promoted from Kitchen Manager to General Manager of his restaurant yesterday. He is now officially the only manager that even works there. The only other people in charge are the 2 owners (who are going through a nasty divorce). One would think that if there is only 1 manager it must be a small restaurant, but no it can seat 500 easily. The manager over the frontend and payroll quit yesterday and the owner decided that instead of hiring a new one, she would just let my fiance take over her responsibilities and give him half her salary. The owner says that his hours won't change, but I can't help but wonder how they won't. They recently closed for lunch, so I guess he will handle all the payroll, books, schedules, during the time when customers aren't there. I am so grateful for the raise ($200 a week), but I don't want it to backfire into him never being home and even more stressed out.

I am excited. Last year at this time we were barely bringing in any income. There were days when we couldn't afford to eat. Just a year later he is now making almost 40k a year and with my 20k, that is not a bad income. I am really hoping that we can be smart about this raise. I want to buy a home. I have been renting for 5 years now. We have an amazing deal on rent right now, but it has its drawbacks. It is a family friend, so we feel bad calling and complaining about things that don't work. I would also love for my fiance to get a new car, his jeep is 10 years old now and falling apart (been in the shop for 2 weeks, $1000 in repairs). And most of all, I like the idea of being able to give Hudson anything he needs without having to scrape money together.
