| 22-1-2009 - tough week | My mood while writing this blog:Ok |
Well, here's the latest. My husband felt pain in his right testicle last week and called the Urologist. He got an appointment, got an ultrasound, and found that the pain was due to a 1" mass. The next morning he had surgery to remove his entire right testicle. They made a 4" incision above his groin and removed the lymphatic chord and the testicle. He is healing well now. The doctor sent the removed testicle to be biopsied, and found the mass to be a malignant tumor. He also found more little tumors in the portion of lymphatic chord they removed, which could be a sign that the cancer has spread up into his body. Today at 1:15pm we have a CT scan to check his abdomen & pelvis for more cancer. His urologist should have the results from the CT scan tonight, or tomorrow at the latest, and will present them to the Cancer Board for treatment analysis on Monday. Fortunately, Testicular Embroynal Cell Cancer is CURABLE with chemotherapy, rather than just going into remission.
Anyways, please pray that the CT scan shows he is clear from any spreading, and he won't have to continue with chemo.
On top of all this, my OB told me at my appt last week that she suspected baby boy might not be growing big enough, due to the abnormal AFP test results from 17 weeks. She sent me to get an ultrasound yesterday (at 34 weeks), and it showed him weighing approximately 5lbs, 13oz! He measured a couple weeks ahead on everything! So hopefully we have a healthy baby boy growing in there! She is going to do another ultrasound in 2 weeks, and if his growth rate is under the 15th percentile then she is going to induce me at 37 weeks. I feel confident that my little man is doing just fine, but am not worried in the slightest about him coming a few weeks early! However, the longer he stays in there, the more time the hubs has to recover.
I will update you all again as we learn more.
