| 02-9-2008 - Contractions? |
My mood while writing this blog: Nervous |
For the past week I noticed that I have been having contractions off and on. At 20 weeks, I thought it was a little early to be having Braxton Hicks, so I called my Dr to ask. She said that BH don't normally start this early, but it's possible. She said that next time it happened I should lay down, drink water, and relax. If they don't go away in 1 hour, call the office or if it's after hours, go to the hospital. I have been having them daily, here and there, but on Sunday when I woke up I had a crampy-type pain in my left side. I thought maybe it was just the way I was sleeping - maybe a muscle or something - but as the day went on it got worse. I was to the point where I was bent over in pain at work. I thought about leaving and going to the hospital several times, but always talked myself out of it. At my job it's not really easy to just get up and go, since I have 6 patients assigned to me, and to leave I need someone to come in and relieve me. So I just put up with it and it eventually went away. Then last night around 5 I started with the contractions again, but this time they were bad, about every 3-5 minutes. I laid down and drank water like the Dr said and started to watch the clock. They went on for an hour! I was starting to get really scared and about to tell my hubby we needed to go to the hospital, but then they started to slow down and eventually went away. After they went away, that damn crampy pain in my left side came back. The pain goes all the way up the left side and radiates around to my back. It would not let up until about bed time. I was able to fall asleep dispite all the worry about what might be going on. I was up in the middle of the night with the pain still happening. I thought if I could just make it to today, I could call my Dr office and get in for an appt, which is what I'm going to do as soon as they open. Right now I'm just scared - I hope nothing is wrong with me or the baby. The cramping pain may just be muscles stretching, but the contractions really worry me. I guess I will call the doc and hopefully they will have me come in today. I need someone to ease my mind and let me know it's all ok!
