| 21-3-2009 - Sick Baby | My mood while writing this blog:Worried |
Something is wrong with my baby boy and I don't know what to do..Everything was fine for the longest time. He had the occasional ear infection and upper resperatory thing but it all seemed normal for a child in daycare. A couple weeks ago we went in for is 1 yr visit. First thing that happens is doc says Cohen will need surgergy for his umbilical hernia. He's refering me to a surgeon. Then he got his shots and some standard yearly bloodwork. A few hours later as I was running around trying to get things ready for Cohen's birthday party, the doctor calls me. He tells me that Cohen is extremely anemic. Like the worst he's seen in a child that looks and acts as healthy as Cohen. He calls in supplements and I go about my day, trying to stay positive for the sake of my childs party. The following Monday, the doctor calls back again. He apologizes for not telling me before but there was something else wrong with Cohen's bloodwork. He is almost completely absent of neutrophils (certain type of white blood cells that fight bacteria). He asked how Cohen's been and I tell him...Cohen had been fighting a high fever for several days which I just chopped up to vaccines. Well, doctor wanted to see him right away so we rushed in. After the exam, turned out Cohen had another ear infection. Doc sent us down for more bloodwork. The neutrophils had increased but not notibily. Basically from 0% to 4%...the number should be between 41%-70%..They gave him a strong injection of antibiotics and strict instructions to come back with any fever. So he's on antibiotics twice a day, iron twice a day, neither of which taste good or are good on the gut.. He doesn't want to eat much. Just wants to nurse all the time which is impossible because I work full-time and my job is very draining. We go back next week for more bloodwork. We just hope and pray that his neutrophil number will go up and iron as well. I just want my baby healthy. I love him so much and he is such a joy to have around. Being a parent has made me more vulnerable than I ever imagined I could be.
