My mood while writing this blog: relief

First of all, thanks to the ladies that commented on my last blog. I was really in a bad place and just sick with worry and your comments left me with some solitude. Cohen had another fever on Saturday morning. I called in sick to work and at docs request, took him to the childrens hospital. They ran an iv, gave him a chest x-ray, gave him fluids, did a u/a, and checked his ears again. The doctor said the neutrophils were still low but heading in the right direction. You'll remember last week it was 4%...well, Sunday it had come up to 6%. This didn't offer me much solitude but I was glad it was going up. Also, his iron was starting to raise. Doctor there determined he still had an ear infection but no other infection and released us to continue the antibiotics Cohen's pediatrician had prescribed. So we went home and relaxed for the day. That evening, I get a call that my best friend since we were 1 yrs old, had overdosed on prescription drugs. She did call the ambulence on herself but not until 30 minutes after she had done it. I spent Sunday evening with my child in another ER waiting for my friends parents and hoping she would be okay. Turns out it was all over her stupid boyfriend. So Monday I went to see her and she seemed better. She has been entered into an outpatient program and will hopefully get the help she desperatly needs. I have felt a lot of fear and helplessness in the past couple of weeks. After I visited my friend, I took Cohen to see his doctor. Doctor said he was very happy with Cohen's bloodwork. He said his neutrophils were actually at 16% because the other doc didn't include the white cell that hadn't fully developed. He thought his ears were looking good and the iron was raising nicely. I'm still not enjoying torturing my son twice a day with these meds but he has started eating solids again. I really feel like we made it over the hump this time. Now we just wait two more weeks for more bloodwork, just to confirm that he's all better. After all, his numbers are still quit low. I'm feeling better though...much better.
