| 24-2-2009 - First appointment...disapointed |
My mood while writing this blog: okay |
Well, I finally got my appointment with the doctor (nurse practicioner actually). I tried to act worried that I was further along than 12 weeks, as some had suggested.....but my plan failed. They just did the typical thousand questions they ask, and all of the blood tests, a pap and pelvic exam. I did get to hear the heartbeat for a split second, but it was hard for her to find and the baby moved right away after she found it--then she couldn't find it again. The pressure from her looking for it HURT! She said from my pelvic exam that I felt about 12 weeks or so. I know they tell about how far along you are that way, but I still think all doctors should do an ultrasound right off the bat so they know what point they are starting from. ANYWAY...can you tell how upset I am about this? lol. Another thing I am disappointed about is that this office was about my only choice because of the Medicaid insurance I have to have. There are four doctors, and three of the four are men. I have had a man OB/GYN before...but I difinitely prefer to have a woman. You have to see all four doctors throughout your pregnancy. Whoever is on call the day you go into labor is who delivers your baby. I don't like this. I guess I don't have much choice though. Sorry to complain so much. I AM happy that we did hear the heartbeat though. At least we know the baby is alive.....could have four arms (lol)...but he/she is alive.
My ultrasound will be in eight weeks...when I am 20 weeks. I feel like throwing a tantrum like a child, lol.

Wednesday, 25 Feb I'm sorry you feel bummed. Don't let it ruin your experience. Some women have U/S early because of age, like me, or because they have had past problems. Most get an early one because their insurance will pay. Not really necessary but is a dr. office going to pass up a payment?? Nooo.. Your medicaid is trying to save money so don't take it personally. I never had an U/S with my first and I had great insurance! Theyjust didn't do one. In any case, you hear something so rest easy. You'll do fine. Maybe a man will be better for you, I have a man dr. and I looovvveee him. Good luck and know that WE are happy for you!! momagainaft16years -

Tuesday, 24 Feb Well gosh I would be upset too. But when I was on medicade with my previous two pregnancies I only got one ultrasound and that was at 20 weeks also. It was soo nerve racking having to wait so long. But be grateful that you have at least heard the hearbeat. I still haven't heard my lil one's and I've already had two ultrasounds. AD -
Tuesday, 24 Feb I have the same issue, I have Kaiser, it seems that every dr in the building has a say so. Women tend to be harsh and mean. I did get an ultrasound on my first visit but thats because I had complications early on. The exciting part for you will be your ultrasound!!! momof3in3years -
Tuesday, 24 Feb awww hun, I'm sorry, that sucks. I had medicaid with my last baby and I absolutely hated it. I hated the office I had to go to and they did the same thing to me. And when we did finally have an ultrasound, the lady barely gave us any pictures. We had lots for my son when we had private insurance and from getting a gender determining ultrasound from a seperate business, but my poor daughter will barely have anything. I think we have feet and fingers for her, something like that. Stupid medicaid. Oh and another thing, Why should they charge 400 for a stupid ultrasound when you know dang well that their old funky machines were long ago paid for.
