23-9-2009 - Baby Shower Blues

My mood while writing this blog:
Confused

My problem is that my friend is throwing mine but she does not want to have food saying that she is not a good host. But that is not even the big issue I feel like she is not concerned about what will make me happy only that it is cost effective...the thing is I am paying for everything and it is at my house. Early when she asked if she could help I told her sure and then she started having financial problems and that is not even the problem. I just feel like it is a baby shower for mom and baby not for friends. I did not ask her to prepare the food or even buy it...my husband and I always have parties and cook the food and supply the booze if it's that type of party. I just feel that you do not invite people over and take gifts and do not feed them. Any who it is only about 10 people invited...since my family lives in a different state. Well any way thanks for letting me vent cause my shower is in 2 weeks and I just wanted to let off some steam.

It is very simple to pick up a meat/cheese....veggie/fruit tray and buy a cake and some crackers for around 50 dollars for all and making your own would be even more cost effective,,but question if she is throwing you a shower but your having it at your house then thats more like your having your own shower in which case you should just call it a meet and greet and take over I would just tell her thanx but youve decided to do your own meet and greet.....Iam having my third child and with my family thinks it is rude I guess to have a third shower so im just having a meet and greet for him here...........anyways I think all babies have a right to be blessed with a shower.....best of luck.....

since you are paying and it is a your house, it would seem to me that you can do whatever you like! i personally would certainly have something to offer the guests....if she's so opposed let her know she doesn't have to eat any of it, and then see what happens...she'll be the first one in there! hope it works out and have a great shower!

I kind of went through the same thing. I called a few of my aunts and had each of them bring something. such as veggie tray, fruit tray, meatballs and pasta salad. I had to just take charge of the food part.It does kind of suck when people offer to help and then complain about doing it. Its about you and the baby.10 people should not cost that much to feed if you go with simple food. I hope it turns out good and try not to worry about it too much.

Since the baby shower is at your house and your paying for everything maybe u should take charge of it a little more and do what makes u happy

So what did your friend want people to do when they got there? Even something simple like footlong sandwiches or pizza is better then nothing. Also if you and hubby are paying for the food, why does she say no food? Good luck and I hope you have a wonderful shower!
