29-6-2009 - 3 hour Glucose test-1 Sheila-0

I went in Thursday morning for the wonderful 3 hour glucose test. Having fasted since 10 pm the night before, I was starving and had a headache. Not fun. She took my blood, she is the WORST shot person in the world, and then the lovely fruit punch drink came out. I drank it, didn't think it was soo terrible, and then went home as I live close by.

No sooner than I entered my house, I made for the trash can and threw it all up! Took all of 7 minutes. Well, I decided right then that I would NOT be telling the nurse that I threw it up as I just could NOT stand to drink another bottle. I physically was getting sick just thinking of it.

I'm sure that isn't the best decision but really, what are they going to do if it comes back diabetic? I had GD the first time with my daughter and all you can do is watch what you eat. I'm already doing that and I bought a blood glucose monitor to take my sugar throughout the day. I'm actually doing pretty good.

I go back and she takes my blood again, and when she takes my blood, she likes to push down hard with the gauze pad and THEN slide out the needle. That hurts worse than an episiotomy!!! My arms are black and blue, the injection site is a couple of holes PLUS scratches, and my firefighter hubby tells me she could have very well blown a vein doing that! It hurts soo much!!!

In any case, I'm glad it's over and if it comes back positive or negative, I'll still watch my sugar with my monitor.

***I also hit McD's afterwards and got a Big Mac!!! LOL Figured why not?? So far, my sugar is good. I prick my finger 3 times a day and make sure to stay away from sugar and high carbs. I can't wait till this is all over and I can hold my baby in my arms.
