15-5-2008 - Our Story thrilledMy mood while writing this blog:
thrilled

After 3 years of trying to have a baby, the disappointments, the negative tests and miscarriages all lend me to say that I am finally Pregnant. It has been such a long road. I feel like I could write a best seller about my experiences with infertility.

Let me begin my story 5 years ago. My sister was getting married, I was a licensed massage therapist. I was very unhappy with where my life was going and one night i woke my husband up at 2am and said " ok..either I go back to school or we start a family." Being caught off guard he said" which is cheaper?" I said I think "Going back to school will probably be cheaper" He then said..."just do that!!!!" And so I did. I was enrolled 5 days later heading toward a bachelor's in Earth Science and a minor in biology. Within 2 years I was done with my bachelor's and starting a Master's program in Education. When I was done with my bachelor's I was also heading toward 30. I had promised my husband that if I could continue with school, i would also think about starting a family of our own. I came off BC in March of 2005 and had gotten my period in April, 28 days later. I thought this was great, everything was going to be normal. But no. From there everything went down hill. I didn't get a period until June of 2005, and then September came along. I new I wasn't pregnant, but there was always a chance. I hadn't had a period so I called my doctor. I went to see her immediately and she did blood work to see what my hormone levels were. My results came in and she called me a week later adn told me to refrain from having sex. If I didn't get a period then I was to take provera. In the mean time while i was waiting from my blood results my husband and I had intercourse and some point during that week, we conceived. I started to bleed two weeks later and I called my dr all happy that I didn't have to take the provera. She said that was great and in the mean time I should go and see and endocrinologist because my levels were right. About a week after my period my breast became very tender. I was exhausted. Something was up. I happened to be working in an OB/GYN's office at the time and one of the receptionist told me that i should take a pregnancy test even though i had my period the week before. And I did. To my surprise It came back positive. I was very confused because I was bleeding. 2 days later, I called my OB/GYN to let her know my findings. She said there was no way i could be pregnant, but to come in and she would do blood work. And sure enough....I was miscarring. This was definately a blow to my husband and I. i didn't need a D&C because my levels went down by themselves. When I finally was done miscarring, WE tried once again to have a baby. But this time no period. Being fustrated we went right to a reproductive endocrinologist.

She diagnosed me with PCOS (poly cycstic ovarian syndrome) We found out that my ovaries were producing eggs but never releasing them. My ovaries weren't working to their full capasity and her recommendation was to loose weight, exercise, watch what I was eating and to take metformin to help me regulate my period. If I didn't get a period to call her. I did everything she said. I didn't loose weight, i did exercise 3-4 days a week. The metformin gave me very bad diarrhea so bad i couldn't leave my house. We changed the metformin from an extended release to the regular metformin which agreed with my body. I did get a period at about 64 days (which was really good for me). She was also pleased. Within six months I droped 12 pounds and began Accupuncture. This was my saving grace. This helped me to get my periods on a every 42 day cycle. My endocrinologist said that if we became fustrated from trying, to call her she would start me on clomid and we could really get this going. Begin determinded to do it as natural as possible, I pushed this off until August of 2007. I went back to visit my endocrimiologist and told her I needed to be pregnant soon. She said ok....September I started my first dose of 100mg of clomid. I ovulated.. had sex, had a sono...Didnt get pregnant. October I ovulated. had sex, did a sono....Didn't get pregnant. November I ovulated. had sex, and a sono...Didn't get pregnant. December I ovulated....Didn't get pregnant. Finally i said we are fustrated. Dr. said time for insemination. So December 31, I went in for our insemination. I was actually ovulating as she inserted the 67 million sperm. And finally we have been blessed. I am due September 22 and I couldn't be more excited!!!!
