| 10-6-2009 - Emergency Room Scare! | My mood while writing this blog:releaved! |
Things could not have been better with the pregnancy...until yesterday!
I had severe, painful cramping in my abdomin starting in the morning. (I had though that maybe it was brought on by an orgasm from the morning, so went on with my day thinking that cramping would pass). Driving to work was the longest drive ever! The feeling was not going away and I was becoming increasingly concerned (as were my coworkers). Mommy mode kicked in and I knew that I had to go home and rest to take care of myself and baby. Even a nap did not help, it actually felt worse when I woke up! I called my doctor and they told me to go into the Emergency b/c it could be a number of different things. By this point I could not stand, sit, lay down or do anything to be comfortably, the feeling was sooo sharp in my abdomin and my back was starting to hurt. By this point I was very worried, but trying to keep calm. My hubbie rushed from work to take me to Emergency.
As far as Emergency rooms go, they actually took me in really fast! My number one thought---is my baby ok? They took a pee sample, bp (elevated), temperature (high) and then checked for a fetal heartbeat. I tell you ladies, this was one of the scariest moments ever because the nurse could not detect a heartbeat!!! OK now I was panicking. They promptly brought in a portable Ultrasound machine...and after what seemed like an eternity, they were able to see the babies heart beating!!! Tears of relief, baby was ok!!!
It turns out I have a Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) which is common among pregnant women because of the pressure on the bladder. It caused painful abdominal cramps and it hurt when I peed and I felt like I had to go alot, but couldn't. They gave me an IV with fluids (I was very dehydrated) and Tylenol, and was able to sleep for a bit. I was able to move again without being in pain after that.
We were in Emergency from 4 until 11, releaved to get to come home and sleep, and that everything was ok. So I'm off to go get my antibiotics, a new water bottle and my cranberry juice. Take care ladies and drink lots of fluids (I know I need to).
