29-9-2009 - Week 12 update - NT Scan

Hi Ladies,

Hope you all are doing well. I am happily progressing along and really appreciate the support from u guys.

As you know my Nuchal Translucency Scan was scheduled in week 12. I went for the scan and they did a special u/s first...it was like week 20 scan from my previous pregnancy. They show all the body parts, measure the crown to rump length, measure baby's head. It was quite amazing. The technician was quite warm and friendly and she gave me 3 pics to take home...one with the baby waving his hand, another of his two feet and the third one was a profile pic...I coudn't thank her enough!! She measured the neck region of the baby to see how big it was. She didn't say much later and said the genetic councelor will speak with you. All my happiness turned to sorrow....i really though something was not right ....I waited for the councelor and she told me about the whole procedure and why it is done.....then she said all your scans were NORMAL but we have to take your blood sample to be sure.....I was thanking god ...i dont know why they create such suspense!! So I gave my blood sample and waited for a week...then I called the doc up and they said that NT results were normal the risk of chromosomal abnormality is as low as 1:10,000.

So I am all smiles at this point....hoping that everything will be alright hereafter. We have not told anyone still about our pregnancy and my friends and co-workers think that I am generaly not well. We are still debabting on the "right time". but I am clueless. Any suggestions??
