| 10-6-2008 - The delivery | My mood while writing this blog:fortunate to have survived |
so i went to the hospital april 16th after weeks of excruciating back pain. at this point my left leg had swollen up so much i could barely walk and could not fit my pants over it. when i got there they sent me straight to the maternal observation. my doctor came in and ordered and ultrasound on my leg. they found a blood clot- deep vein thrombosis- stretching from my groin down to my knee. it was incredibly scary because at this point i was 4 weeks from wyatt's due date and we were in a life-threatening situation. we were not sure that either of us would survive.
i was immediately admitted and was told i'd stay there, on bedrest, until he was born. i was not allowed to get up for ANY reason...not even to go o the bathroom in fear that the clot would release. they put me on blood thinners and morphine (i was in a LOT of pain.) because of the blood thinnners, the doctors did not want me to have to have a c-section, so they watched my contractions very closely for two weeks. when i started having pretty major contractions two weeks early they decided to induce. there was a small window of time that i had to deliver from when they took me off the blood thinners to when they had to put me back on to avoid the clot releasing to my lungs or heart.
they induced me at 6:30 that morning. i had not dialated past a 1 by noon so they broke my water. i dialated to a 4 but never got past that. at 10:30 that night they decided to do a c-section. it was incredibly scary because i was in a very dangerous situation- if i was off the thinners too long my blood would clot during the process and it could kill me.
but, at 11:23 pm on april 30th daniel wyatt was born! he was 5 lb. 11oz. and 21 inches long. he went to the NICU for a couple of days and that was HARD!!! i didn't get to hold him until the next day. he had a little trouble after the delivery but al in all came out pretty healthy. he's 7 weeks old now and incredibly healthy. i still have the clot in my leg but take blood thinners every day and am now on the mend. we thank God every day he was with us. there's no way both wyatt and i could have made it on our own.
