28-11-2009 - Breastfeeding again!

My mood while writing this blog:
Glad..but sore!

~*Well ladies I think my milk supply started going down again as I went from 3oz every 3-4 hours to 2oz every 3-4oz so I thought now that my nipples are healed then maybe I could breastfeed again so I tried it 3 days ago and like before he took right to me! But now my nipples are very sore again! Only when he 1st starts to feed then I'm ok no bleeding again as of now but I'm worried it will start all over again! I've been using the cream everyone told me about after every feeding! I have made up my mind that I will not give in so easy this time (like it was easy last time ha!) I so much want him to get my milk b/c all my other 4 children came out very sick and 3 of them had to have surgeries b/c of GERD (where everything they eat comes back up and inot thier lungs and they don't gain weight and they stop breathin) He seems not to have it right now and I'm so worried that if I have to put him on formula that it will cause it! Which doc told me it wouldn't but still! I'm gonna try to just get past the pain b/c everyone tells me it gets better and the pain goes away! I want to be one of those mothers that are smiling while breastfeeding! On a good note tho my supply seems to have went up! I also have a question well a couple lol 1st how long does the pain last? 2nd around the same time at night he will feed for 20 mins on each breast like he does all day and night but around 8pm after all the older kids r in bed he crys and acts like he hasn't fed but it has only been 45mins maybe since he was on my breast. So what I'm asking is has anyone been through this? Is he not full for some reason around this time? I do skin on skin and nothing seems to work and if i put him back on my breasts he falls asleep but will wake up as soon as I take him off! If I let him cry he will for about 45mins then falls asleep! HELP I don't like him crying like this!!!*~

I exclusively breastfed my 16 month old and still continue too now whilew i bf my son. I did get sore nipples this time too because he was latching incorrectly. it was less than a week for him to learn the proper way and for the scabs to heal. now theres no pain at all and he's 10 days old. I knew it would go away from my first experience. If you can work through it for about a wekk of him EBFing then it will be smooth sailing from there.

If you are using Lanolin cream, you should put nipple shields on as well so that your nipples don't rub against your bra or stick to your bra and pull when you open your bra to feed. The air will help heal your nipples. I had a small blister on one of my nipples around the 2nd month and it was very painful and bled. But the lanolin and nipple shield helped. Also, if one side is less sore than the other, use that one to start the feed so that by the time you move the baby to the other side, he will be less hungry and not suck as hard. But if you keep feeding like you are doing, it will heal rather soon! I think it took 10 days for mine to heal. Congratulations to you for persisting!!! I LOVE to hear this - too many women throw in the towel because of discomfort to them!!! I persisted for 8 weeks before we perfected it and I'm still bfing 13 1/2 months later!!! I had scabs on my nipples and bleeding when I first started. I had a midwife come to my house every day for a week and they gave me some great advice. First, if you are using Lansinoh for your nipples, it will work and it will heal your nipples. It worked great for me, and I don't even need it now. Mommy of a boy is right, you do want to squeeze your boob once your baby has latched on, it will push the nipple further into your babies mouth so there won't be so much "pulling" to get milk. My baby is only doing one breast a feed... So try just feeding on one breast as long as you can. The hind milk will fill him up the most. Try tickling his feet if he falls asleep. And feel you breast for lumps... if the milk is clogged up you can massage the lump out and the milk will flow freely again. I put the gel on both nipples after each feed.

ok everyone say not too but i did when you go to lach the baby on squeeze you areola/ nipple like a sandwich and tickle the top of his mouch and shove it in there you wanna make sure he is taking up as much as possible of the beown/pink around your nipple cause if not ooh boy i know what your goin threw i am soo proud of you that your not giving up majority do!!! well try that till he gets used to opening up his mouth wider andddd as far as the night thing my son did that two i tried different things but what solved it for me is leaving him on one boob for the whole time so he gets the "hind" milk which will fill him up and sometimes he still cries after coming off but i sit him up with my hand holding his jaw and burp him then he falls out and he is already in position to lay down lol good luck let me know if any of it works for you

Are you making sure the baby is latched on right sometimes if the baby does not latch on properly it may hurt, I BF my first and loved it no pains ever the ONLY part I did not like was where she would not take a bottle when I was not around but that part was ok were bonded like super glue :). Also BF is diff. from formula where formula babies eat a certain amount on a schedule while bf babies eat constant so thats normal he wants more milk, my dd was on the breast constant and she was not over or under weight doc said she was perfect and healthy. Keep doing a great job on BF pretty soon you will be a pro. Goodluck hun!
