Should my doctor be doing transvaginal u/s weekly to check my cervical length vs. as I call it the wkly "finger check" ??? My sister in law told me her doctor told her she didnt want to check her like that bc it would dilate her more. When my doctor checks me, she says the same thing...short and soft or soft and thin. She even told me that she can only get exact measurements by doing an ultrasound. So why do I need to be subjected to this?? I guess its really starting to bother me now bc she is quiting OB after July 31 (my 37wk mark) and is now requiring me to meet all of her partners. I met one and she let me skip the cervical "finger check" bc I just had an u/s the wk before. I told a nurse I liked her and if I cant have my doctor I would like this one. Well my doctor still wants me to meet them all in case I'm an on call delivery. I wouldnt mind if I didnt have to have all of them up in there. I dont feel I should have to either. First of all I could have met them before I required wkly cervical checks, or I can meet them on days I have a u/s which is every3-4wks. I'm not suppose to be an on call delivery bc I'm to have a c sec. If I deliver before 34 wks I wont have any of them bc they will transfer me to a highrisk speciality hospital and my doctor told me I would have to use that hospitals doctors. So tell me why again I have to be subjected to this? My doctor's nurse told me yesterday over the phone that I have too and there is no way around it since I require wkly cervical checks and that my doctor more than likely wouldnt be delivering me anyway. Nice huh! Any advice, please!!

Saturday, 13 Jun I go to a maternal fetal nedical clinic which specializes in high risk and there are 3 docs in the practice. I LOVE all 3 of them. Anyways, I get checked once a week via transvaginal u/s bc my docs say that is safer that the finger check. with the TV u/s the wand doesn't touch the cervix, it only stays in the vagina. with a finger check, the doc actually has to touch your cervix and that is where the concern is. A speculum exam is even gentler than the finger exam because the cervix can fall into the speculum and be cradled. I hope that makes sense. I wasnt' checked at all when I was on hospital bedrest. They figured if something happened, I was already in the hospital. Now that I'm home and having BH everyday, each week that I see the docs, they want to make sure that they are just BH and are not causing me to dilate. My membranes are exposed and they don't want me to get an infection should I dilate anymore. Hope that helps. dlaverty -
