26-8-2009 - 38w2d Check Up

My mood while writing this blog:
So Tired

I am so sleepy as I write this, but it feels great to have something to write about that's not as negative as my recent blogging topics!

I had my checkup today and baby is doing really well. I'm about 40% effaced and almost 3cm dilated. Baby's station hasn't changed too much as he's still sitting at about a -2 to -1. Not much progress since my last checkup, but hey, I'll take whatever I can get at this point; a progression of 1cm with an extra 10% effacement is definitely a good thing.

My NP said she could feel the baby's head today - talk about weird! I wonder what Isaac thought about that? I can only imagine he was all "what the hell was that?" - nobody has touched him that closely and I'm sure it freaked him out lol! I'm kind of jealous though - I wish I could have felt his head! Oh well, I know it will be soon enough before I'm able to snuggle him from head to toe :) I asked if she could feel much hair and she said "no." I thought that was interesting since this whole time I just assumed he was going to come out with a full head of thick hair just like his daddy... I'm more curious than ever to see what this little man looks like now!

The NP stripped my membranes today. The actual procedure didn't hurt, but holy crap - the contractions that followed were something else! Okay, I'm sure they were nothing compared to actual labor pains, but oh my - I do believe I shed a few tears! I actually had a few contractions that wrapped around from my back to my front and I feel like I'm getting a quick briefing on what to look for when the time comes! I've also been extremely crampy - very much like a really bad period. It's almost funny because it's so similar to period pains that when I go to the bathroom, I almost forget that I'm pregnant and expect to have started my period! Funny how the brain remembers so much about my pre-pregnancy self, as I seem to have forgotten what things were like 9 months ago.

As much as I hope the membrane sweep will kick-off the end to what has been a great pregnancy, I am doing my best to be patient and not expect too much too soon. It seems like everything is so much harder when I get my hopes up and my expectations are not met. So here's to leaving it to Isaac to arrive when he's ready... even though I REALLY do hope it's sooner than later :) Until then, I'll just have to get really creative to keep myself distracted :)

It's good to hear you back in your high spirits! News of dilation and effacement is a sure way to make you feel great! I would imagine that they wouldn't be able to feel the hair bc they're still in a sac, so to speak. But I think it's so sweet how you were thinking of his reactions to her touch, that thought never even crossed my mind when my doc said she could feel her head (but then again I was a little loopy, functioning off of an hour and half of sleep). How long did she take to sweep your membranes? Mine only did it for about 5 seconds... Oh, and you must be finding a great way to distract yourself bc you're missing in action!! Having the baby maybe?

I have a NP too. She stripped my membranes 2 days ago, I have alot of mucus but no cramps!!! i cant believe youre 3cm..... lucky girl!!!! you may go before me..... i'm jealous!

hey, congrats on the progress! you're right - any progress is a good sign! good to know about the membrane stripping. i'm sorry you were in pain. :( but yeah, i guess it'll hurt much worse when we're actually in labor! i'm happy to hear that isaac is doing well and you're maintaining your positive attitude. hang in there! xox
