02-12-2008 - hm. how should i get help? scaredMy mood while writing this blog:
scared

ok ladies..i need some advice! i cant breathe for ANYTHING & i feel as though my doctor is not taking it seriously at all. its really pissing me off. i just sit at my desk & all the sudden my heart races up to 140-170 bpm & all of the sudden i am struggling to breathe worse than ever. sometimes its for over an HOUR that this continues. i have told my OB over & over & he hasnt even hooked me up to a monitor to see how Brax is doing! he sent me to a cardiologist, who told me i was experiencing tachycardia, but they couldnt give me anything because i am pregnant & they dont want to slow the babies heart rate down! well ok i agree & all but i mean DO THEY EVEN CARE ABOUT ME?!?! because i am the one sitting here smothering for sometimes OVER an hour & everytime i call him crying because im struggling to get a breath in they do NOTHING! i am SO pissed off..how can i make them listen to me?! i mean i feel as if i will be dead & then theyll be like ooooh we shouldve listened! im not exaggerating at all i mean it feels as if i am breathing through a tiny coffee straw while some 900lb man sits on my chest! its awful!!! i heard that 37 weeks is considered a full term baby. do you think there is any way they would go ahead and induce me @ 37 weeks? i mean probably not since they dont even freakin listen to me about SUFFOCATING! GRR i just dont know what to do..no one is taking me seriously!

ohh man i just read ur blog. thats so scary!!! ive been having panic attacks since my last pregnancy. and somtimes it doesnt even feel like panic. like the other day i had to leave work early because all of a sudden i got reallyyyyy hott (i was actually on register at work) and got really light headed and felt like i was about to pass out. and this has happened b4. but its all related to anxiety i think. like i had no reason to be nervous or have any kind of panic but it happened and after then i couldnt get myself relaxed. so i left early sick. idk if this is a panic/anxiety situation or if theres something else going on but i deff think maybe u need a 2nd opinion which is easier said than done. i havent even told my dr about my situation cuz i feel like he wont do anything about it and just say i need to relax and take it easy. which doesnt help!! i hope u feel betterr!!!!!

definetly sounds like a panic attack. I suffer from sever panic attcks, i've actually had one so bad that i hyperventilated and passed out and was hospitalized, theres not much they can do for you when your pregnant becuase they recomend therapy and medication but you obviously cant take medication when your pregnant so you need to make sure you see a doctor and find out what alternantive you can use. Sometimes you wont even know its a panic attack becuase you dont feel stressed or panic and they just sneak up all of a sudden, but there called subconcious panic attacks, you can even have them in your sleep, I would wake up out of the blue gasping for breath and suffacating, I took seriquil and prozac but had to stop when I concieved. I hope they can properly diagnose you and theres somehting they can do to help. just dont let the doctors tell you its nothing i never took it seriously until the night I was hospitalized. It can be very dangerous. good luck to you i hope everything gets better. if you have any questions just let me know, id be glad to help. =)

I'm glad I read your blog, this sounds like me at 17 weeks pregnant. I remember waking up one night struggling to breath literally thinking I'm going to die, I went to the er, they gave me a ekg and everything was fine. I talked to my obgyn about all my symptoms and she put me on celexa for anxiety, its now 11 weeks later and oh my gosh do I feel so much better. She said the stress of going through all of that is worse for your baby then being on a pill. My little guy is doing perfectly fine and growing right on schedule. Its hard to be put on an anti depressant anıtime especiallı during pregnancy but let me tell you it took away my anxieties, because I know what you mean about the breathing. Remember when it happens to sit back relax tell yourself this is all in my head and take slow deep breaths and say this is for the good of my baby and try to calm yourself down, because the more you get worked up and get on the phone the worse it gets! Good luck let us know what happens!

I too personally think you are dealing with panic and anxiety attacks. I've dealt with them and I have had numerous relatives (including my own mother) deal with them my entire life and that's EXACTLY what it sounds like to me. I've had a few panic attacks where I literally would gasp for air because I couldn't calm myself down enough to breathe. You'll have no idea they're panic attacks because they'll just spring up whenever, even when you don't feel stressed or overwhelmed, but considering what all you're going through - I think it's safe to say that you are dealing with PAD. (Panic & Anxiety Disorder).

Talk with your doctor. Suggest this to him. If he still doesn't take you seriously, I'd find a new one. Where I live there are numerous OBGYN's you can go to. I am sure the same is for you in TN. If not, call your local crisis center - they'll connect you to anyone you need to help you deal with what you're going through.

Good luck hun! Keep us posted.

You are having panic attacks! I get them every few days when I am feeling overwhelmed and stressed-which you definitely have plenty of right now. They are scary. It feels like you are having a heart attack. Call your doctor and ask if they can recommend anything you can take for it while pregnant. At home, take a bath/shower and read or something to take your mind off of it. At work just see if you can step outside or something. I started getting panic attacks when I was pregnant with baby #2 and have had them off and on for 9 years. They seem to come in waves, often for a few weeks, then gone for awhile. After you have your son, they can definitely give you Xanax or an antidepressant!

I am not familiar with what you are experiencing although it sounds painful! I hope you have a resolution as soon as possible.
I agree with the opinion when it comes to having a second OB to look at you!

can you go to another OB? or are you stuck with this guy? If your in serious pain and feel like you can't breath, he needs to take that seriously. If I were you, I would call and call and call and just raise hell until they do something about it. Seriously, I have learned that when you bug and push them enough, they will give in they have to. Sometime's doc's dont want to do anything extra for the patient b/c of the costs. Dont let them bully you around just b/c your young!! Take matters into your own hands, and step on his toes if you have to.

i wonder if any of this has to do with stress? i don't know you personally, but some of the blogs i've read seem that you've had to go through a lot lately- which could possibly be causing some of this. i'm definately not a doctor- and i may certainly be way off- but maybe if you could try and meditate while you are struggling breathing it could help. i know if i start to hyperventalate, the only way i can calm down is if i get control of my body in my mind. it is the most difficult thing i have ever had to do- and my husband had to stand in front of me and help calm me down the whole time. but i know you are a strong person (after reading your emails) and i bet you could do better than i could. i'm really sorry no one is listening to your concerns- if i were you i'd keep calling and calling and calling my doctor until i got some answers that satisfied. keep me posted!
