So with 4 weeks to go, it is finally feeling real. I have gained 50 pounds and feel pretty good about it, quite honestly. I may be a whole lotta woman, but I know as soon as I am back to eating normally (not craving Oreos at 2 AM) and exercising (back at the boxing gym--can't wait!) I'll be sweet as. My husband has been phenomenal throughout the whole process and I feel truly blessed to have such a model partner.
My greatest complaint right now, other than feeling tired and having a hard time breathing, is super sore, swollen hands. They wake me up at night. I had to cut off my wedding ring over a month ago because my hands had gotten so huge--I wold never recognize them as my own if they weren't on the ends of my arms! They ache and it's hard to make my fingers work quite right--forget texting on my phone.
The greatest thing about being pregnant has been knowing every day how lucky I ma to have this experience. Having been through a miscarriage and a solid year of trying to get pregnant to no avail, the fact that this was an accident has taught me that I really need to accept what few things in life I have control over. The fact that this is happening period when I thought it never would just makes me so thankful. There is no question we will adopt at least one other child after having been blessed by the gift of going through a pregnancy. That might sound weird, but this has all just made me so thankful for what I have and eager to give back to the universe.
Pregnancy is awesome. For all the hormones, crying at Dunkin Donuts commercials, not being able to sleep, weird cravings, lack of energy, and overwhelming not-knowingness about the whole process, in the end my husband and I made a whole new human being who will wear Clash onesies, grow up singing Bad Brains lyrics, believe in karma, and help make the world a better place. Nothing is better than that.
AS for the birth, I have just filled out the releases to do a waterbirth and go au naturale. Lula is supposedly already at 6 pounds and will likely be huge, so I'll be sure to fill anyone who is interested in on how all that goes. I am not swearing off the possibility of drugs if the birth ever begins to feel beyond my control. I am just going in with enough strategies to be able to attempt natural birth if it turns out to be right for me.
Good luck to everyone trying to conceive, pregnant, and with a new baby. I look forward to continuing to share the journey with you.
