| 01-11-2008 - stupid hospital | My mood while writing this blog:Ok |
ok first let me explain. i live in a really small town. our hospital is only 3 floors. it is really a branch of a larger hospital an hour away. my doctor is out of that hospital however she is on vacation through monday. however there is only one OB clinic and the doctor on call yesterday was my doctors partner.
so i wake up yesterday with some brown blood. it didnt concern me until i went to the restroom and noticed a large amount of bright red blood. i called my husband to come home from work and got dressed. i get to the hospital. we go into emergency (that was my instructions per my doctor) they say you have to go to admissions. my husband was like she is 30 weeks pregnant and bleeding should she be walking? the lady was like well there's a wheelchair there if you want to push her. so he wheeled me down through the hallways to where we were supposed to be. i go through the admissions process. and the have to WALK down more hallways to the elevator and up 3 floors.
the nurse puts me in a room. tells me to change into the gown. asks all the general questions. i told them of my cervical problem, i told them that i was high risk for preterm labor. she puts me on the monitors. about an hour later the nurse comes in with an IV. i aske her what it is. she says its just fluids to get you hydrated. i ask if i am dehydrated. she says we dont know. i ask her about the monitors, (i wanted to know which one showed contractions) she told me you have had some hopefully the fluids will stop them. she takes blood and puts the IV in. and leaves the room. another hour passes and the ultrasound lady comes in.
she turned her monitor so i couldnt see anything. measured fluids. told me he is breech. tried to find my cervix after me telling her she cannot find it with the tummy U/S because of the location and that i have been through this. she continues to dig and push trying to find it with no luck. she finally leaves.
another hour passes. doctor comes in. tells me i have an abruption and that since the bleeding is stopping they would send me home. this is the same doctor i had at 20 weeks that told me i had an abruption when later after more tests and stuff they say there is no evidence that there is anything of that sort. so i ask her about contractions. she informs me that i am having them about every 10 minutes with smaller ones in between. so i ask am i in labor? she said no. i was like can you explain to me what labor is. i was under the assumption that contractions that are regular are a pretty good sign of labor. she basically said well when your water breaks. so my instructions were to come back if the bleeding comes back or if my water breaks.
the nurse comes in takes my IV out and says get dressed you can go home. i leave thinking to myself next time im just making the hour trip to a hospital that knows what they are doing. the doctor that saw me here didnt even look at my records. she hadnt even seen the U/S report. my mother of course came up to be with me. and she was like i hate to say it but even if you make it to term i dont want you delivering in that hospital (they wont deliver before 36 weeks) my theory is even if i am pushing i dont think they would know i was in labor. the bleeding has stopped but the contractions are still there.
on the upside my mom did my dishes, and cleaned my kitchen. she did an amazing job (she runs a maid company so she knows whats up) she kept making fun of me because there were so many. she was like i dont think i even have this many dishes in my house. it took her an hour and a half to get them all done. (i told you it was bad)
all in all i dont think labor is far off. i want to last a few more weeks but at the same time i have prepared myself for the past few weeks that that may not happen. i have gotten him this far, and he may be little but he will survive. he's my little miracle.
