24-11-2008 - feeding

My mood while writing this blog: proud

well i wanted to breastfeed, the nurses wanted me to breastfeed.....however the doctor said no. they said they have to monitor his intake and they cannot tell with breastfeeding how much he is taking in. this is partially due to his prematurity and partially due to his metabolic disorder. so we had to bottle feed. i was so scared he wouldnt be able to breathe. but my little man is super baby. he took that bottle and acted like he had been doing it all along. he was so precious. he would suck a little while. then take a little break then suck some more. he took about 18ML before spitting up. he got a little excited and i think that upset his tummy. they gave the rest of the feeding through his tube.

all in all it was great. we were worried he wouldnt be able to suck swallow and breathe. but he did it. they also turned the temp down in his isolette and he is maintaining a perfect 98.6 temp. with any luck he will be in a big boy bed sometime this week. and of course be taking more bottles. the will do another MRSA or MSRA (cant remember which it is lol) swab today. if it comes back negative (the last one did) he will be out of contact isolation. he will be able to go play with the other babies lol. everything seems to be going very well for our little man.

he also filled his diaper for me. seems like everytime i hold him he decides that is the time to poop. but its all part of having a precious baby.

i still cannot believe he is 3 weeks old. i cannot belive he is already here. in normal circumstances i would still be preggo. i dont think it will truely sink in until i have him home.
