My mood while writing this blog: wondering |
So my little chunky monkey is growing like a weed and causing trouble in the NICU. He and the baby next to him grunt and "talk" to each other all day. This baby was a 26 weeker and still on oxygen however he is strong enough to be buds with my son. This other baby is just the cutest little thing. he is bigger than timmy (he is 3 months well almost 4 months old.) but he is having trouble with his breathing still. I spoke with the mother today....she went into preterm labor at 21 weeks but they were able to keep it off until 26 weeks. he is doing well and eating about double what my little timmy does. his lungs are just having a hard time.
We found out for sure today that they cannot find a surgeon to do his hernia surgery until after the first of the year. My husband became very pissy and well irate so we ended up leaving the hospital because i didnt want him to make a scene. So he called his cousin who is a doctor in arkansas. he hasnt spoken to this cousin in about 5 years however he pulled some strings. We are looking to transfer timmy to this hospital in arkansas, about christmas day. this surgeon can get to him at the latest next monday, so we would have him home by next tuesday.
what angers us is that we asked the doctors if they checked arkansas. and they said yes. how is it that we can find a surgeon and they cannot. they said after the first of the year probably around the middle of january when we find one that is willing to do it. this hospital is about 45 minutes from us here in missouri however my mom lives down there about 10 minutes from the hospital so it actually works out for us. we are kind of getting fed up with the NICU where he is at. they say he has heart rate drops during feeding or burping but he has doesnt do it when i feed him (well for the past 2 weeks anyway) i think its the way they position him. his primary nurse agreed and made a note to hold him a certain way. well they dont follow it. we also found the nipple he feeds best from....and yet they never use it. they use a medium flow on him and he does 10 times better on the slow flow. plus he does better on a nuk nipple rather than the other one. so they use a medium flow regular nipple. we tell every nurse what he does best on and they never do it. BUT i will say he is taking more than required on all feedings except the feeding with his vitamins and Lcarnatine (for his metabolic disorder) i think he just doesnt like the taste of it.
still little timmy is doing just great. i cannot believe how beautiful he is. he doesnt like to be held like a baby. he likes to lay on your chest. then he coos at you. im so excited to get him home when i can look over at any moment and see my little miracle. its amazing how these little preemies grow. the little 1 pound 5 ouncer is actually growing too. still without oxygen and is up to 1 pound 12 ounces. a huge leap for that little guy.
another thing i have seen in the NICU that makes me sick to my stomach. the other day we were in as they were admitting a new baby, this baby had a heart defect of some kind. i immediately felt horrible for those parents. the next day we learned the real story (we overheard conversations) the mother tested positive for Meth while pregnant and the baby tested positive at birth. these parents already have one child in foster care. i sat there thinking what kind of horrible people are these? they contribute the heart defect of this child to the drug use. and these parents acutally had the balls to ask if child protective services would be involved with this baby. WELL DUH! you cannot take care of the children you have and this baby tested positive for drugs. you dont deserve to have children!!! there are so many of us that love our children and FIGHT to be able to carry them. so i looked it up, its not a criminal offense to use drugs while pregnant. they can take your children away but they cannot prosecute you for it. i am going to look into having that changed....that is my new mission.....

Monday, 22 Dec The NICU you are at sound very frustrating. Thank goodness your hubby has the connections he does.
Hearing about that little meth baby makes me so sad. We've all gone through so much trying to keep our babies healthy and then someone can be so callous and selfish and sentance a little baby to a really painful start in life.
