07-9-2008 - advice needed confusedMy mood while writing this blog:
confused

Hey ladies. So i'm in serious need of some advice, any and all is welcomed. This is our first so everything is new to me and I've been doing a lot of research now just really need some advice from those in similar situations or who have been. Anyways so some of ya'll know my whole dilema but for those who don't i'll try to run it down as short as possible. Since day one i've been striving for an unmedicated natural birth but now i've realized that this might not be possible. Where heres the obstacles. For one our son has been measuring 3 weeks big since our first u/s...at 21w he was measuring at 24w and weighting 1lb 3 oz and at 26w he was measuring at 29w and weighting 2lbs 3oz. Both techs on seperate occasions mentioned he will be at least 8lbs if we go to our due date and highly advised me to get tested for GD...which i passed with a wonderful score of 82. My doc has informed me that these can be off 10-20% but she has admitted that he is a big baby especially for lil bitty me (pre preggo i was 5'3 and 105lbs). We have no clue why he's measurin so big because i know positive about my LMP and my last one was very normal. Also i was only 6lbs 1oz at birth and Daddy was only 5lbs 9oz at birth. So with the issue of him being big i am afraid he will get stuck. My OB seems to be just waiting things out and thinks we won't make it to our due date but now i'm looking at it as if what if we do..days are just passing by. Well besides that whole issue i tested positive for GBS, i've done research and i know its pretty common in pregnancy and requires antibiotics during delivery so baby is not affected. So okay past that now the big problem is at my 37wk d/a on Wednesday with a different doc he discovered that Jr isn't in the right position which he should be by now. Not only isn't he engaged but he's actually laying caddy corner which makes it worse. The doc said that when i do go into labor the contractiosn "might" urge him to move in his correct position and if not than i will have to have an c-section. So now i'm just really worried and it seems like i'm looking at all these what ifs and stuck waiting like a freaking ticking time bomb and i'm nervous wreck when i should be excited for my son's arrival. SOOOO since my d/a me and hubby have done some serious research and talking. I'm at the point now that i'm thinking it will be best to talk to my OB on tuesday at our d/a about getting a c-section scheduled. Its a big step and i'm really disappointed especially since i wanted an unmedicated natural birth. I've heard that c-section's recoveries are longer but i am willing to do anything...my main priority is bringing my son into this world safe and healthy. I'm looking at it like his if i do have planned c-section that way i will avoid him coming in contact with the GBS, he being to big and getting stuck and him not moving into the proper position. I would rather have a scheduled c-section than a emergency c-section. Better planned than a last minute thing! So ladies i think i covered everything. Please feel free to leave any advice or input and i would greatly appreciate it. Thanks again

i was diagnosed with being borderline gestational diabetes and at birth i was only 5'11 and my hubby was 8'7 so they are concerned as well although my son has been at a normal weight they are still going to induce me early and i want a natural birth as well and im fearful of the same i was tiny before i got prego as well so i know how you feel the only thing i can think of is praying about it since its out of our hands and what will be will be im trying not to stress so much, i have a back up plan to discuss with my ob if i happen to need drugs ask which is best for me, my suggestion is that you do the same discuss your options with your ob and go from there and dont stress this is a happy time remember accept the things you cannot change leave it in God's hands or the docs which ever tickles your pickle good luck and i will pray that you have a safe and natural delivery

If you look at my latest blog you'll see that I have a concern different yet similar to yours. Be very careful who you take advice from. Most ppl today have little confidence in nature and are induction, c-section, fans. It's scary. Lotsa babies move into position "at birth". It's not like he's completely breech. To say schedule a c-section to alleviate your fears doesn't seem like a good reason to have surgery. Most of the things we are afraid of never happen. I am facing the same question "will my baby come out, or will they have to do the c-section?" but I have decided for myself that I have to give her a chance becasue there is a good chance she'll come out just a God intended and that I am worried about nothing. Then I would have had a c-section for nothing and will never know if I could have had her w/o complication. If she does come out naturally, then I know the next one may too and wont have to automatically sign up for a c-section uneccessarily if I have a 2nd baby as well. If I do have to have a c-section, I wont feel bad because I will know it was neccessary and not me acting outa fear. As far as the GBS, as far as I know, the antibiotics work fine for that so it shouldnt be a concern. This is just "my opinions", hope you find peace in whatever conclusion you come to for yourself. It's scary I know but as for me, I'm at peace about mine now that I have decided to try. "In the end, remember, you'll be holding your baby and "in love" one way or the other. :)

I had a emergency C section after 30 hrs of labor with my first. My son was 7 lbs 1 oz at 37 wks. His head was too large for my pelvis. He tried to come but would not happen. He ended up with a bruise on his head from pushing. When the doc said it was time to do a C section I was ready. I was not scared. DH was a nervous wreck but I just wanted my little boy. My recovery was pretty easy. My nurse had me walking as soon as my legs were back from being numb. My pain was very minor. Everyone is different some have hard recovery from vaginal delivery. Do whatever is best for your baby. My repeat C section is schedule for 09/16. I am not nervous about the surgery I just want to see my little girl and make sure she is ok. I have some issues this pregnancy. Hang in there. We are all here for you.

If your doctor thinks it is safest for you to have a c-section, then you did NOT 'fail' by not going natural without meds. As a parent you have do what's right for your children, and no one will ever look down on you for that.

I think that if scheduling the c/s is what will relieve your tension than it's something you should do for you. I think if I was in your position I'd probably do the same thing. My baby isn't in the optimal position yet (the midwife swears that he'll move into the best position to be born once labor starts) but on the other hand, I'm not gbs positive. I understand where you're coming from-all the thing you read online and hear from different doctors is really hard to take in and decide what's the best for you and your baby. Just try to enjoy the last few weeks (hopefully less!!) of your pregnancy and remember we're all always here for you! :)

Wishing I had advice for you. I am now 38 weeks and begging for this one to come out already as well. And also GBS positive. I think a scheduled C sec is less traumatic in that you are aware of when it is coming. My daughter measured big by 3 weeks as well. But these are all guesstimates since Ultrasounds are not an exact science. I was told my second child would be 9 lbs and she was 7lbs 8 ozs. Hoping for all the best for you and the wee one!!!!! Keep me posted!
