25-11-2008 - Latest Appointment

So, I went to my 34 week check up with the midwife today (with Hubby). I was really excited for this one because she was finally going to tell me if he is in the head down position. He is! Yeah! She said he is most likely stuck there and will not move. Phew! Also, I had been feeling him (or so I thought) ball up a lot lately... come to find out that is actually my uterus. That's what happens in particularly strong BH contractions. I am measuring well and his heartbeat is about 140 this week. We are going back in two weeks and then it is every week from then out.

I brought in my Birth Plan too and we all talked a long time about the delivery. It is amazing how close it is already. The only thing a little disturbing is next visit is the scheduled strep test. I wasn't planning on taking it, but I guess the hospital will give you a really hard time if you don't take and they will want to draw blood from your baby (I go to a birth center). They are really good with everything else. Also, I guess if you want to leave with out a doctors release they made a new hospital policy that they will call CPS and sic the government on you for making your own parental decisions. And if I refuse to have my baby poked and drugged I can look like an unfit parent. That is so obnoxious to me. It seems so wrong and such a violation of human and parental rights. The Birth Center will be fighting the policy.

So, we decided to take the test and hopefully I will be negative. If I'm not, there is a good pediatrician that might be willing to release me with out all the interference. Other than that I'm almost done with everything for baby. Midwife said I might be a little low. I still think he's coming early. After Christmas, before New Year. I can't wait to meet my little guy! Glad that your appointment went well! I am also running into issues with testing because I decided to deliver at the hospital and now I have to take all the tests that I had previously refused because if I don't take them than they have to poke/prod my poor little Joel at the hospital -_- it isn't fair that parents can't make decisions anymore!!

Sounds like you are right on track for everything. It sounds really harsh about not being discharged and getting CPS involved, at the end of the day it is your baby and here in the UK there is a policy that as long as there will be no long term health affects, the decisions around tests etc are left to the parents. Good luck with everything and try and take care xxxxx

glad to hear everything went well. i had mine today too. my doctor said i can only travel for two more weeks. i guess we'll be staying home for Christmas. That's okay. i hope she comes before Christmas anyways. ;D hope we have our babies soon, just not too soon. :)
