My mood while writing this blog: laughing |
Momma called me again this evening and she said: "You just missed it!" and I said "What" and she said "Lilly was nursing tonight!" lol It seems she has been having some trouble with her milk production, getting more from one side than the other. So the nurses were going to give her some meds to help with it and since she has a history of a seizure disorder they couldnt do it. So they advised her of some herbs she needs to get. Well tonight they allowed her to try and nurse Lilly while she was kangarooing her. She said that they are placing a little cloth on lilly each time she kangaroos her and then when Mom comes home to rest, she is to bring the cloth with her and lay it on her pillow so that she gets Lilly`s scent and it should help her milk to come in better. I had never heard of doing this, I know that sometimes mothers can hear a baby cry and their milk will let down or smell baby products, so I guess it would work. I know it works with baby animals to place something with their mothers scent on it and they will snuggle down when taken away from their mothers at an early age. I guess we learn something new each day dont we?

Friday, 11 Jul Hi there Grandma Gwen.....
First of all congrats on your beautiful grandaughter :) I had been chatting with your daughter before she had Lily as I have been through the same thing. I had my son at 28 weeks so I can appreciate the wide range of emotions that your are feeling right now. Most preemies experience ups and downs and even though the nurses and doctors tell you this is normal it is such a hard thing to believe. These babies are very special fighters and one day you will look back on this and wonder if it really happend!!!!!
My son was born on Dec 15/07 weighing 2.4lbs. He came home on Feb. 11/08 at 4.2lbs. He is now 13lbs and doing really well. During his stay he had a PICC line which he pulled out right before he got an infection which led to a blood transfusion. It was such a roller coaster. But in all his follow ups everything is great. He is a very normal healthy baby.
As for the pumping ......I swear until you have had to pump around the clock you cannot appreciate it. It is such an unnatural thing.....I pumped for 3 months and then I stopped producing enough for him. I used to get my "let down" when I got home from the hospital. Believe it or not my worst pumps were when I was sitting beside him at the hospital. I think it was because he represented stress to me. He was so small that by the time he latched on the milk would not let down fast enough (a pumping machine is a lot stronger than preemies suck) so he became frustrated very quickly. He was bottle fed breast milk for a month after he got home.
Lily looks fantastic in the pics......stay strong my thoughts and prayers are with you.
