Wow! is all I can say. I was asked by a lady if I would come and be a practice patient for pregnancy massage. I was a little hesitant as I was unsure if it would be like a class around me learning or lots of people practicing but I decided any massage was good at this stage of pregnancy.
I arrived at the Wellpark college and found it to be an alternative medicine place. They had lovely tranquil gardens and people roaming around that looked like western tourists in India eating their lentils. As I went into the building it had sculptures of people meditating and crystals hanging. Now, I am all for using natural medicine as God created it but being a Christian I felt a little uneasy as some of their practice I would not be able to participate in due to my beliefs. I decided to proceed in but was ready to opt out if need be.
I was taken to the room where the massage would be done and introduced to two students. Both were trained in massage already but had come to do a short course on pregnancy massage. They were both in their 40's I would say. I felt at ease straight away. They had already had the training and now it was time to try it out on a real pregnant person. They had to treat me like a normal client and go through all the health checks first.
I was then told to strip off to my undies and wrap a towel around me. I was kept very well covered and did not feel uneasy about this during the massage. They only exposed the area they were massaging and avoided the chest and bottom. They did do the very top of the bottom/hip area and that felt great.
It was so nice to lie on my side ( alternated half way) with one leg propped up on pillows. The massage was bliss. All those areas that you can't stretch or that get tension were targeted. They really knew exactly where to go and where not to go. The massage lasted just over an hour but I could have gone for another hour. One of the ladies has offered me another free massage at her own clinic. I think I may take her up on the offer.
It is not something I have every had in pregnancy due to other financial priorities but I am so greatful to have had this opportunity. Thanks to my parents for looking after my five other kids so that I could be pampered.
