27-6-2008 - The things no one tells you no.29 That secret question, Will my vagina ever be the same again????? OkMy mood while writing this blog:
Ok

Here's a thought that goes through a lot of ladies minds but they are afraid to ask. After all if you have a vaginal birth there's a lot of stretching going on so will things ever look and feel like they used to??????

Straight after birth and for the first few weeks your girly anatomy will not feel the same especially around the perinium (between the vagina and anus). If you have had stitches you will have healing to do and probably some swelling. Even a birth that has no tearing may have some extra swelling but it may not be painful. Most scarring from tears fade in time, heal really well, and do not remain obvious.

Often while you are pregnant your girls anatomy becomes more fleshy and full due to pressure and increased fluid volumes in the body. As the weeks pass and your body gets rid of excess swelling and the healing is almost done, things can feel a bit deflated and odd but your normal elasticity will eventually return but maybe not exactly to how it was before. Some women actually find sex more comfortable after having a baby.

The crux of it is, you will not be deformed or be so different from before birth, but, things may be a bit more relaxed than they used to be. Makes for an easier birth next time around!!! Pelvic floor exercises will help lift and tone the vagina and also help with bladder control. I have another blog that goes into detail on this.

So to all you gals, no need to worry.

I agree with honeymoon baby.......sex is better after baby and I've had 2! My man say's it's no different at all. I was just one of the lucky ones.....and I pushed my babies out super fast and I hear that help's. The longer the baby crown's the more chance for changes in that area. So push hard girls! :)

The thing i have noticed post-partum is that my vagina has straightened! I know that sounds weird but i had a tilted forward uterus pre-pregnany now following the birth it seems to have rectified itself, sex is far more comfortable and enjoyable now. I never thought birth would be good for my sex-life

to be honest, I was cut during one pregnancy, ripped from one end to the other during another. It makes no difference to your vagina, apart from a little bumpy scar tissue. After my first child I found my vagina stayed as tight as it was before the birth, but after my second it definately stretched. I do pelvic floor all the time, you can buy vaginal weights, they tighten you a little, but not much. In all honesty once the vagina walls have stretched, there is not a lot you can do to fix them apart from surgery. I would def get surgery if i had the money. I get so paranoid about my size, and would actually prefer a c-section so I do not stretch even more this time. It has been no easier with each pregnancy just because I gave birth before. Every woman is different though, the elasticity in our scin is all different. Do the pelvic floor whilst pregnant and after it, worth a try, and wont make it any worse.

omg i was also so worried about this. i ended up with being cut almost from hole to hole. we didnt wait the full 6-8 wks to get busy, i think we had tore a stitch, i was so scared it was going to be like throwing a hot dog down a hallway. my hubby says its fine... so, even if your "v" is a little deeper the inside still feels the same as it used to????

I was so scared after i had my episiotomy ... was scared to use the bathroom, sit the wrong way, i was scared id slip, do a split and have a smile where my vagoo should be. lol another thing i worried about was being "looser" during sex. id always gotten the compliment that i was a "narrow fit", even my gyno had to use a smaller tool to exam me. but guess what after i healed up everything went pretty much back to normal. the V at the bottom of my V was alittle deeper but it didnt change the composition of my body... the gyno still has to use the smaller thing that prys ur vag open for an exam and my husband says it feels the same....now for pregnancy number two im REALLY WORRIED lol jk

I wish someone had told me my vagina would swell during pregnancy I didn't even think about that being a possibility but it makes sense since we have more blood pumping through us and all.

the thing that i am mostly worried about is knowing when i am in labour, i get period pains now anyway, nothin really strong but this was due to me having an internal at 35 weeks. how can i tell i'm in labour without freaking my husband out??
