| 20-6-2008 - Sick of Baby Talk | My mood while writing this blog:Meh ... |
OK, well I'M not sick of baby talk, but it seems like others around me might be tired of hearing about it. (Not that they really are.) Today, I sent a lot of folks I know an mp3 of our baby's heartbeat. It has me talking on it as well as my ob/gyn. It's less than 10 seconds long. I had a few nice responses, but others seem like they're not interested ... I should say, however, that this goes beyond this email.
I feel weird about how much should I talk about it and I'm really trying to avoid making everything center around my pregnancy, because life does go on. But it's very strange and I feel like only a few people (mostly women who are moms themselves) understand and care. That's a dumb statement, isn't it? Of course guys don't care about baby stuff. And! I work mostly around men, so who is there to talk about this with?
I swear I'm not trying to rub any of this in because there are people close to me and around me who have had miscarriages and/or trouble conceiving. I also don't want to talk about it much at work or in social situations because I'm not a "goo goo, ga ga" type of baby person. I still like to laugh and joke about other things. I also enjoy gossiping and working! It's good not to think about baby ALL of the time.
But!
It's just a weird position to be in. I'm really excited about being pregnant - especially when I'm feeling a little sick. I just feel like there aren't a lot of people who care to hear about it. So, I'm left with, how much is too much? Where do I draw the line at baby talk?
I mean, people have babies everyday. I need to keep telling myself that. : ) Good thing my husband is a good listener!
