29-6-2009 - Got sad news today

My mood while writing this blog: upset

I'm not sure if I had said anything or not about my grandma (Nanny) having back issues. She hurt her back and has now waited 4 weeks for tests. Well, she had xrays and and MRI. Today my mom called me at 12:30 and said they think they found that my Nanny has cancer of the spine. I'm so upset. I can't believe this. And to think they could have caught it a month ago! It makes me sick that people have to wait so long for proper testing. I've never heard of someone just having cancer of the spine. Usually, I hear of it spreading from one place to the spine... So I really don't know what's going on. Not to say it can't happen, this is just the first I've heard of it. She goes tomorrow to her doctor to talk about her options. Honestly, I feel as though she's too old to fight it off... I mean, I'd hate for her to spend her last months to years here in pain fighting cancer just for it to end badly... But at the same time, there would always be a "what if" if she didn't try to fight it. I never thought I'd get this news. I just thought she had a compression fracture of the spine.... Not cancer. Not sure how to take this, but one day at a time. Of course, I'm a nurse and my family is going to be looking to me for answers. But I don't feel that I have a whole lot of experience in the cancer department. Guess I'll be doing research.

But one goal I had was to make my Nanny a Great Nanny. So, I'm sure that will happen in the next few weeks as I only have 4 weeks to go now.

The news made me start having contractions. At first it was just braxton hicks. Then, it was pains in my lower tummy with tightening all over my abdomen. I had about 4 or 5 when I told my husband to get his school work done. I ate, drank, and took a bath and they seem to have subsided.
