MY TANNiNG BED DiLEMA

So, I've been wanting to tan. I work at a Tanning Salon and its been aggrevating me really really bad. My doctor says not to tan but I just dont understand why. She said its safer to go outside but its honestly not. See in a tanning bed its a controlled environment, You get only a certain type of rays and you can control the time and the temperature, where as outside you cannot control anything, therefore its very unsafe. Alot of people say its mainly for the heat, your body temperature cannot be over 102 degrees. Well I cant control that outside!! & I live in FL! but in a tanning bed i can :) And the whole "microwaving your baby" is totally a myth. The rays dont even hit your baby just the top of your skin && thats only if your body temp gets over a certain amount of degree. I've been doing my research but people say just dont do it to be on the safe side. Why?? Every reason they have just doesnt make sense to me. Also, Tanning bed gives you vitamin D which is very good for your baby. I know im just complaining over nothing but imagine loving to do something so much & its actually not bad for you but someone tells you not to do it. You will be the same way im sure! And guess what, I ate sushi last night, am I just a bad mother??

Anyone have any feedback/comments/concerns??

I use to work at a tanning salon, and we didn't allow pregnant women to tan, but I was going tanning right up until I found out I was pregnant and the girl that worked there was 8 months and she tanned, said she did with her first 2 also ,and the doctor told her it was fine, just don't go in as long:) I stopped just to be safe , there are studies saying that there is no proof the tanning bed hurts your child.

I use to LIVE in the tanning bed before I got pregnant, and then when I couldn't go anymore I got super pale and hated the way I looked! (I think everyone looks better with a tan!) haha-- however the vitamin C in the natural sunlight is good for you and your baby, in a tanning bed its all about heat, and I wouldn't risk my baby for anything in the world, even if it really doesn't hurt her I'd feel TERRIBLE if all of a sudden there was a problem, So I found an alternate route, I got this lotion by Smashbox that is like sunless tanner but it doesn't turn you orange, and you can layer it as much as you want!! i'm SUPER tan now and I feel great!! its only $35 and it's well worth it!! It wont be long dear and you can tan again, just please try to hold out! you're beautiful, you don't need to tan!! :) Just remember how much more important your baby is than your tan!!

i feel white and crap too.. apparently tho the rays that come from a tanning bed deplete your folic acid reserves ... sounds crap to me.. i might see how i feel and get on one..

GeeeeSH! I'm glad I'm a beaner chick..haha never have to worry about tanning I'm Tan enough already but I always loved to have that tanny white girl skin :( but I do understand where ur coming from...I am a crazy drunken party girl and of course I cant do that anymore :( but its all worth it at the end when you see your healthy baby....

I used to be a big tanning bed tanner as well and I stopped to when i found out i was pregnant, But i think if there is something you want to do then do it but dont OVERDUE it, I liked to eat meats and stuff and i still do even not recommended because of listeria but I only do once in a blue moon now Its always better to keep the baby safe even if its a stupid rule! but your the one who makes the decision so do whatever is best! best wishes!! you know what!? When i was pregnant with my son 2 years ago..i had a vacation planned to go to Jamaica...I HAD to tan in order not to burn...I am high risk too because I have a liver disease. My OB told me to tan becasue it would be better than frying down there. As long as you and the baby are healthy and you dont have any concerns or complications I would go....just dont go every day and take it easy. If you feel that pinching feel get out ahead of time. I used to work at a tanning salon too, we onyl let pregnant people tan if they had a consent from their OB. So if your OB said absolutely not,..i wouldnt but i was find..i only went like 3 times a week max though, it is better to be safe than sorry. and as for the sushi...that is somethign you really do need to be careful with.i know someone who got that weird thing from fish and they lost the baby..i know thats probably a fluke..but its still scary

Ah..i know how you feel! I used to work at a tanning salon also (not while preg tho) But I know what you mean the salon I worked at strickly forbid preg. women from tanning (I am sure for legal reasons more than health reasons) but I feel the same way, I would just LOVE to go in a tanning bed right now!! Its SOOO hot outside, and there isnt even a breeze when I lay out by our pool. Atleast in a bed they have fans and only last about 10-20 mins! I dunno, my doc has forbid it, and my fiance would KILL me if I went. You aren't a bad momma for missing those things. Imagine telling a guy he can't watch football or go to the gym or something for nine months lol...it sux...but its all worth it in the end.
