27-3-2009 - What a Day!!!!! StressedMy mood while writing this blog:
Stressed

Wow, what a crazy day. I got home a little early to take Michael to the opthamologist with my husband. We got him all dressed, and he coughed so hard he puked! We cleaned him up, and took him to the appointment, about 30 minutes away. While sitting in the waiting room, I became concerned enough with his newly developed wheeze that I called the pediatrician. They asked if we could come in right away. I told them we were at Dr. in Hershey, so they asked me if he was breathing fast. By this point, we had been called back into an eye exam room. The nurse in the room with us said his breathing rate is fast, so we are told to get to our ped's office right after this appointment.

By then I was so stressed I just want the eye appointment to be fast! Long story short, the doctor said he has definite strabismus, but it bounces between eyes. He seems to favor his right eye slithly, and the degree of crossing is variable. So, he will need surgery to fix the crossing, but we need to patch the preferred eye now to get the other a bit stronger and hoefully stabilize the degree of crossing so they know how much to fix it.

Then we booked it to our hometown to see the pediatrician who has diagnosed Michael with Asthma based on symptoms, and a decent family history of it on both sides. He said Michael may grow out of it as he gets older. He said it is common in babies, but especially in preemies. So, we learned how to give a nebulizer treatment. Then I ended up at a pharmacy not exactly near my house because the closer ones did not have the meds in stock. Thanks goodness for insurance, since I paid $30 for over $300 medicine!!

On top of all of that, I got a voice mail from the company that I rented a breast pump from last year while Michael was in the NICU. I returned the breast pump to the hospital as I was directed to in May. Somehow the breast pump is lost and they say I am responsible for the $1200 missing piece of equipment. ARGH!!!!

I do not mean to sound like "woe is me" but is it possible for anything else to be laid on my proverbial plate right now????

NMCK-I'm sorry you're having such a hard week! I'm glad Micheal is going to be okay. Thank goodness they figured out what was wrong. I hope the hospital figures everything out too. What a mess!

I'm so sorry! What an awful day!!! Poor Michael!! I hope he'll be able to grow out of the asthma! How bad is the eye surgery? It's better if they can fix it now when he's little though, he won't even remember it when he's older!
about the pump... that makes me so mad for you!! Did they give you anything paperwise to prove that you turned it in? I assume no or you would've been able to fix this the first time around... grrr! I hate when institutions are irresponsible like that and won't just suck it up and take the blame!! I hope you can get that worked out with them so you don't have to pay for it!
I'm sorry you had such a bad day, it seems like when it rains it pours huh? You're TOTALLY allowed to get all "woe is me" after a day like that! Heck, I say you're allowed to do it whenever you feel the need, even if the day isn't as bad as this one was! Everyone's got to vent! and here is the perfect place to do so. Venting allows you to be able to continue in the situation you're in, and since it's not always the one you WANT to be in, but more of one you're stuck in, I strongly believe in venting! :-) Anytime you need to vent I'm here!

Oh what a horrible day! But I was diagnosed with asthma as a baby and have had no problems since high school, so out growwing it is a possiblility. How invasive a surgery is it for his eyes? At least it has been caught early, and you did get his meds! Do you have a receipt form the return of the breast pump? I will keep you guys in my thoughts....

Wow... I have a day like that every now and then myself. My 3rd baby had asthma and he hated the nebulizer. He'd fight with me every night I gave it to him, and my husband would get so upset watching him fuss. I only had to give it to him until around his 1st birthday and he grew out of it. He also had a 'wondering eye' for several months, and luckily that corrected itself too. It's tough at this age, and unfortunately doesn't get any easier for the next 18 months.

And with the pump, hopefully you'll be able to straighten that out with a phonecall.

I feel like going to bed after reading all of that... :-)

nmck, So sorry about your rotten day! If this makes you feel any better...Grace had to be on breathing treatments when she was a baby and into her toddler years frequently. We had some serious scares. Her breathing problems generally occurred with a cold. She has been better the last year or so. Asthma is big on dh side of the family. Did they give you a baby-sized mask? Some of the ones they tried to give us over the years were so large or they wanted her to put her lips on a pipe-like thing. She would gag all the time with that. I am crossing my fingers for you that his breathing is being brought on because of a cold and that it won't be an every day thing for you.

Aww sorry about Michael, I hope he gets better with treatment and medicine. James had asthma when he was a kid, he was a preemie too (six weeks early) but he outgrew it. I hope you have a better weekend.

Actually.. they told me last summer it was missing. I tried to take care of it with the lactation consultant at the hospital, who told me she remembered seeing the pump with my name on it. I called her back to follow up on it, but she never returned my calls. I figured she took care of it for me!!

I already plan that is the hospital will not take care of it, I am calling our local consumer reporter who has a consumer reaction project thing going on. I am not paying for it when I followed my directions.

i would be suspicious that it would take over a year for them to suddenly notice the part was missing. I'd fight it!
