| 03-4-2009 - 1st Appointment | My mood while writing this blog:Dissapointed |
So its been a while since I have updated... because I havent really had anything to update.
I had my first appointment last friday and it was incredibly dissapointing. First of all, Shannon wasnt able to come, because he had to work, but that wasnt really a big deal... especially when it turned out he didnt miss anything at all.
So, my doctor is "Semi-retired" so I have a new doctor who seems like she has never even read a book about pregnancy, let alone had any experience with pregnany women.
She walks in and says "so, your preggers... is that a good thing?" I was turned off right away at her lack of professionalism.
Then she asks me a million questions including "how much do you weigh?" (isnt she supposed to weigh me?) I told her I have gained 6 pounds already and she doesnt even blink... Im pretty sure gaining 6 lbs in less than 10 weeks is something to remark about.
She doesnt look at my stomach, feel my stomach, ask me about my stomach... she really didnt ask me anything at all about the pregnancy...
She says its too early to hear the hearbeat (even though i know a lot of you have heard it by now)
She tells me i dont need another Ultrasound until 17 weeks. Im like "dont you need to do some screening at 12 wks?" She says no
Then she asks me if we want to do the prenatal genetic screening tests, Im like "how would i know anything about it when i havent been able to have an appointment until now?" So after finding out a little about it by reading the pamphlet she gives me (and that it includes an ultrasound between 10 - 13 weeks) I say that we do want to do it. She gets all the forms and writes when she wants her secretary to book the ultrasound appointment. She writes that she wants it in late may (by then i will be 18 wks) Im like "it says here that the ultrasound needs to be done between 10-13 wks..." she's like "I know but i think that the one you had done at 6 weeks will be enough" I read the pamphlet again, and it says the purpose of the ultrasound is to measure the thickness of the skin at the back of the neck... At 6 weeks, it didnt even have a neck. The entire embryo was only 5 mm long!!!
I ask her what i can use for my breakouts during pregnancy, and she tells me "anything topical should be fine" even though i have read in several books that you cant use a lot of acne creams and soaps because they contain harmful chemicals...
I ask her about horseback riding (I buy and sell horses, and need to sell the one i have now, before i can stop riding). I know it isnt the best thing to be doing, but as long as i dont fall off, i think its ok. She looks at me like i have 10 heads and says "I dont see any reason why that would be a problem..." LIKE ARE YOU STUPID! Of course it isnt reccomended...
So then i go out to the secretary and she is sitting there ignoring me (I thought) then she hands me an appointment card for a time that totally wont work for me, and then goes ahead and books the other appointments, also without asking what time or day is best for me... I think she is so rude. Regardless, after clarifying my need for the 10-13 wk ultrasound, she did book it when i wanted it.
Just needed to vent... hate feeling like noone is taking care of this pregnancy
