| 01-6-2009 - my birth story with the twins | My mood while writing this blog:Wonderful! |
Hi all! Here's how the story goes:
I went to the hospital on friday the 22nd because I was having some contractions. I forgot what they gave me in the hospital but they did send me to get a script for Procardia..I even posted that I had gotten it. Well, about an hour or so after taking the "evil drug" I got a headache out of this world and my BP started to rise. I called my Ob and while on the phone with her I started to throw up so she told me to head back to the hospital so that they could run some labs. I go back and instead of going to triage they said that my OB called and said to admit me to be monitored for the night. During the night they gave me various drugs to bring my BP down and to get rid of the headache. Next morning came around and I felt good, but my BP told another story.
My Ob said that she was keeping me until I delivered that my BP was getting harder and harder to control and that she wanted me near in case she needed to deliver me. Only 1 1/2 week...or so I thought.
4 days later on Tuesday my BP started getting a mind of it's own again so I was given a BPP and growth scan to see how the girls were doing in case I needed to be delivered. Both scored 8/8 and the weights they were estimated at were 5lbs 5oz and 5lbs even. (watch those numbers, they changed...) So I was feeling comfortable my doc was feeling ok and said that she thinks that we could make it another week.
Wednesday morning I don't know what happened but my BP went to 208/110...so that's when she said for me to get ready that we were having some babies! I had just finished eating and she said that I could deliver vaginally since both were head down and that a cervadil would be inserted to "soften" my cervix. From what everyone (nurses and docs that came to see me through the day) said, cervadil would only soften the cervix and prepare it for potocin. I was to have the 1st one then a second one 12hrs later because my cervix was long and closed (5+) then on Thursday morning they would start the potocin.
The cervadil was placed at 10:30am and about half hour later my 24hour mag. sulfate was started. I always heard that mag makes you hot, headache and lots of other side affects so I had a fan brought into the room and when I asked my nurse how long I had left she said 7 minutes (the first 20 minutes are suppose to be a boost of some sort) I had none of the side effects that were mentioned so we all thought that the labor was going to go well.
I started having contractions about 11:30 and they were strong from the start. They were 3 minutes apart and coming with no end in sight. I just kept asking if this was the way it was suppose to go because I was in pain. I had been induced with my daughter but it was a long process. About 2pm I was feeling like a wuss because I was asking for pain relief. My nurse had a strange look on her face and said that maybe I should get my epidural, I didn't want anything like that because sometimes it can slow your labor down. But this wasn't a normal labor. It was twins and my BP was up and I was having contractions with a medication that shouldn't have given me contractions. And I was dialated to almost 4 after being a 1 when they put the cervadil in 3 hrs before. So I got the epidural just in case they needed to do a emergency C-section.
About 4 pm my baby B kept having D-cells and at one point I had a nurse in the bed with me on top of me trying to massage her to bring her heartrate up. It was then that they decided to do the C-section. I cried and cried, not for the c-section, but because my baby needed me and I couldn't get my hands to her. I just told them to get her out as fast as they could. I was in the operating room on the table and we were waiting on my OB who was on her way. She walked in and I was ready to go. It took maybe 5 minutes, I was loopy from the drugs but at 5:14pm Jaidyn Victoria came into the world screaming and a minute later at 5:15pm Jordyn Vivianne followed in her sisters footsteps screaming. That was the best sound I heard!
Now these girls are rock stars. Jaidyn came in weighing 4lbs 10oz and 18inches (growth scan showed 5lbs 5oz less than 24hrs before) and Jordyn was 4lbs 1oz and 18inches (5lbs even on GS) They have been on room air, they had IV's just in case and those were removed yesterday and today have been drinking breast milk and are so alert it's hard to believe that they are only 4 days old.
Jaidyn is under the Bili lights because of jaundice but she's so cute. I'll have some Pics to add later on tonight. I just got home from the hospital and on my way back because it's easier to pump there. So, I'll be back!
