07-1-2009 - GTT

My mood while writing this blog:

Hi ladies,
Well today I had my glucose tolerence test........ Had to be in the hosp at 08.30 this morning and it was the so called 3 hour test.
Girlies its not as bad as you would think at all, I was actually quite suprised.
- First they tested my urine and took blood sample number 1..... all fine
- Then they had me drink a small jug of Lucozade (for you ladies who are not from Ireland or the UK this is a glucose drink used for sports etc), had to drink that within 10 mins.... not bad at all and I actually like the taste of lucozade..BONUS!
- Then they had me wait for one hour until 09.15 and took the first set of bloods after the glucose.
- Then an hour later at 10.15 they took another blood sample.
- Then an hour later at 11.15 they took another
- Then again and finally at 12.15
- The I was given a lovely scone and a glass of oj...best darn scone Ive ever tasted.LOL..... well after fasting anything would have tasted amazing...dont think the thing even touched the sides of my mouth...LOL |LOLS
So although I was there at 08.30 the actual test did not begin until 09.15 when they take the first blood after the glucose drink.
I also got to see the doc and he showed me my lil princess on screen, doing very well indeed...soooo happy to see that, makes my heart melt every time!!!
So now they will call me with the results tomorrow am......fingers crossed all is ok.
Just wanted to let you lovely ladies who have to have this done that it is not as bad as you would think.

So glad that everything seemed to go well. I'll keep everything crossed for you that the results come back AOK. Its great when you see the little bean on the scan isn't it? At my last appointment on Friday the doc did a little scan just to look at the placenta, heartbeat etc and all i could see was his/her big head! Couldn't believe that we've gone from having to have the sonographer zoom in to see the baby to only being able to see the head!

Also, I won't get food or juice when I take my 3 hour test. I'll be lucky to get a "good-bye" when I walk out the door!!!

Hey hon, Its a similarly done here in the US but... I know at the place I go, they don't show you your baby. Its a lab that you have to go to outside of the Doctor's office call LabCorp and sadly, they can be very mean in most places. The waiting room is a white room with no tvs, no magazines, nothing. But the process is the very same.
I think its the taking of the blood 4 times that has people little less then thrilled. For me, like I said, these Labcorp people aren't usually the friendliest of people. They must hate their jobs. Anyway, they throw you up in the chair and dig around in your arm for a vain until they can find one. They aren't gentle. And I'm not saying this to be hateful. I try to be as friendly as I can when I go in there because I don't want to be treated like cattle on the way to the slaughter house. But... It never works. So, I'm really glad your experience was a very good one. You are a sweet person and don't deserve the treatment that I've been getting.
