Hi All you wonderful mommies and mommies to be...hope you are all good.
Here is my birth story.......................................
Wed 18th March 2009- 07.30am: Arrived at the hospital for my scheduled induction feeling extremely nervous and excited. They settled me into a pre-labour room and ran some simple tests..... the main one being an internal to determine what the plan of action would be. My cervix was soft and extremely short and I was about a half centemetre dialated. Doc decided no need to use the pitosin gel and to go straight to breaking my waters.....WOW things were moving...YAY......
Waters broke approx 10am and I was moved to my delivery suite to be checked again and then hooked up to the oxitocin drip to bring on the contractions. Was given the drip at 12.00noon and was able to rest for an hour before contractions started.....and BOY did they come quick and hard. There was hardly any time between them and they were mostly running into each other, most lasting about 60 sec and with about a 5 min break between, and some lasting 60 sec with a 1min break in betwee. With my fab hubby by my side to remind me of my breathing and my midwives....the wonderful Betina & Deirdre to help me I felt very safe and in control. By the time I had reached 3 centemetres the contractions had hardly any gaps in between and I was in agonly....I knew I wanted the epidural.... so when the anestethist came around I was ready to go for it. At approx 3pm I was prepped for the epi.... it was hard keeping perfectly still whilst having contractions but again my hubby and mw was there to help keep me calm. Took them 3 tries before they found the correct epi space....uncomfortable and painful but sooooooooooooooooo worth it. When that bad boy kicked in I literally could not feel a hint of a contracion.....ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh amazing!!!!! I progressed steadily from then on by 1cm per hour and by midnight was fully dialated and ready to push. My mw prepped me and gave me a quick chat about the breathing etc and told me to give it my all and think of the end prize.... By 12.10 midnight I was pushing...took me a few tries to get the hang of pushing into my bottom as I could NOT feel my bottom.LOL....anyway they told me I was doing great and my hubby was amazing....keeping me focused. By 12.35 it was apparent my little miss was stuck and in a little bit of distress, part of my cervix was still convering her head apparently so they called a doc in to perform a ventouse (assisted delivery with cap).... A few more really good pushes and out came my beautiful daughter at 12.53am March 19th weighing in at 6 pounds and 14 ounces. I was in such a state of shock when they put her on my chest underneath my nightie....she was just so perfect and appeared to be looking straight at me.WOW. Her daddy and I dessolved into tears of joy and I can honestly say I have never felt more happy in my life. Even the mw was crying. It was the most nerve wracking, scary, amazing, happiest time of my life....... I feel so blessed to have experienced birth.
We are home 4 days now and Ava is 6 days old..... she is doing sooooooooooooooooooo well. Feeding very well every 3hrs- 3.5 hrs or thereabouts and she seems like such a contented little baby. Her daddy and I feel so blessed. We are not using her nursery just yet, she is in a small glider crib in our room for the time being. The sleepless nights are a total shock to the system but worth every single one...im sure we will be in a routine in no time.....it has only been 4 days since she is home so I kinda have to keep reminding myself to stop expecting too much of myself. She is just a little angel and her daddy and I have never been happier than we are now as a little family of 3......... we are soooooooo in love with her.
Hope all you ladies who have had your bundles of joy are doing well and wishing all you mommies to be the best of luck with your births.
Lots and lots of love and cuddles from Tina & Ava xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
