| 30-10-2008 - Met with the surgeons and staff | My mood while writing this blog:happy |
We had our multidisciplinary conference in Danville Yesterday. We met with the surgeon who will opperate on my little guy. We met with the pediatric doctor. The social worker. The OB nurse and toured the NICU. The surgeon was very helpful he answered all our questions. He said that they wont really know for sure the definate approach until Benjamin is born. He did say 2 scenarios. If the Omphalocele is small they will operate within a few days and put everything back in. They are stating right now the Omphalocele is 4x5 cm SO he seems to think if they cant put it all in right away they will still close him up. He will just have a herniation for several months and then go back and operate later when there is more room. But most importantly I will be able to take him home!! He said when they do the 1st surgery a few days after birth they will work on him tolerating feedings and bowel movements and within 3-4 weeks he can come home.
Then the pediatric doctor asked me why I was scheduled for a C section. I explained that I wasnt given a choice. The doctor I am seeing told me that right from the start. He told me they will discuss why but he seems to thinks its ok to have a vaginal birth! I will know more on this next week. Here for 14 weeks I am assuming I am having a C/S and now things change. I dont know how I feel about that! I need to find out the pros and cons for both. All in all it was a great visit to the hospital and meet with everyone. They also said they would put me up in either the Ronald Mcdonald house or another place there so I can be close to my son. Another question I had was if I would be able to see him the second he was born. They told me absolutely they will show him to me let me kiss him then take him off to the NICU. That was a relief. Well I hope to have more next week.
