Hayden Update-
First and foremost we decided on a name for baby boy #2, Hayden Cyrus! I had my 20 week prenatal appointment tonight, my blood pressure is excellent, I’ve gained 6.5 pounds thus far, my uterus is measuring at 21 weeks and Hayden’s heart rate was 145 bpm. We went over the results from the ultrasound, the baby is healthy, my placenta is in the back which is good but they noticed placental lakes on the placenta (information below)
“Placental lakes are seen on scans as black areas on the surface or deeper inside the placenta, and are actually pools of blood.
There have been one or two cases reported where very large placental lakes were thought to be associated with poor placental function, but it is now known that almost all placentas have one or more lakes by the third trimester, and they don't seem to affect your baby in any way.
Research has found that placental lakes are present in about two per cent of pregnancies and are more common in thicker placentas. There appears to be no association with placental abruption (bleeding from the placenta during pregnancy), high blood pressure or pre-eclampsia, premature labor, small babies or stillbirths.
Because it would seem placental lakes are so common and have no significance, most sonographers do not report them, or even mention them to women.”
I have another ultrasound scheduled for July 8th however we need to find out if insurance will cover it, if not we’ll have to pay $700 out of pocket. I called Blue Cross Blue Shield when I got home, they said as long as my OB will send in documentation stating it’s a medical necessity they’ll cover it…tomorrow I have to call my OB/GYN and try and get the billing taken care of before July 8th. The information I found online doesn’t make it sound like a major concern but I’m still worried, DH and I are wondering if Benjamin had the same thing and were never informed. When Benjamin’s placenta came out the midwife commented that she saw areas that seemed to show lose of blood, I’m going to see if my OB has the results from his placental pathologist.
Benjamin Update-
Benjamin started swim classes on Saturday, I have to say I was shocked how well he did; I thought for sure he would have been scared and crying the entire time, he was a little uncomfortable in the beginning of class but by the end he didn't want to leave. He filled up his pool on Sunday and was demonstrating things he'd learned in class like rolling over, floating on his back, dunking his head underwater without us even encouraging him.
We ordered Benjamin's furniture last week, it's due to arrive the end of the month however we probably won't start working on his new room until the July when DH is taking a week vacation. It'll be interesting to see how he takes to a new room, furniture and sleeping in a twin size bed.
