25-8-2009 - OMG I CANT SLEEP damn near suicidalMy mood while writing this blog:
damn near suicidal

Last night I got a grand total of 1 and half hours of sleep. It started with heartburn, but by the time it died down, I just couldn't get comfortable! I'm so frustrated with this whole sleep situation, I feel like I should just stop even TRYING to go to bed. Why do I put my pajamas on, get in the covers and lay down if I'm just going to wind up choking on heartburn, and tossing and turning?

Since I was 16 weeks pregnant I sleep for an average of one hour before waking up. But lately, I've been getting a total of 1-4 hours of sleep a night. The other night I only got 2 and a half hours total. And I can't nap during the day. How in the hell am I going to deliver this baby? Where will I find the energy?

I am so upset, angry, frustrated, depressed, and worried, loopy, exhausted. Sometimes I'm so tired and can't sleep, I just cry. I'm soooooo tired that my eyes burn. I want to finish shopping but I don't think it's safe to drive around all sleep deprived like i am...

Is anybody else experiencing SEVERE insomnia? Does anybody have any suggestions for me?

This will prepare you for when the baby comes! Just when I'm tired and ready for bed, he's up all night. It's crazy. The only real sleep I get is between 10-12 each day. You're almost there! Not much longer and all the pregnancy stuff will be a distant memory!

im 17 weeks. i cant sleep more than 2 hours at a time. i just wake up. it can be for any number of reasons, heart burn, to use the bathroom, back ache, hunger, headache, im swetting, im freezing, etc. i wasnt like this with my first. i was out like a light by 8pm with her then up at the crack of dawn ready for work. this one is totally different. however, i did have horrible heart burn with my first, i found the only thing that helped was drinking an ice cold milk shake just plain vanilla, and then sleeping on the sofa with three pillows under my head and back (so i was just about sitting up) i also would lean my back on the back of the sofa, so i wasnt flat on my back but more on my left side. (tummy sleeper generally so i could never fall asleep on my back) i also ate alot of tums. i think i took a little pill for heart burn at the end, but i dont remember what it was. i know it was over the counter, but i would ask your doctor about it bc like i said i dont remember which one it was, and i dont know which are safe and which arent. good luck. i sympathize with you. hang in there. the rewards will come soon =)

Awww hon - I know exactly what you're talking about!!! Sleep is a joke these days! I have even questioned myself as to why I get ready for bed and even lay down, when I know very well what's going to happen. Even on a good night (read: when I get 4-5 hours of interrupted sleep), it takes me at least an hour and a half to fall asleep, then I wake up a half hour later to pee, shift the baby from my ribs, beg the cat to stop howling, get my hubby to stop twitching, etc. It is soooooo frustrating! As for the heartburn, papaya has been a total gem... I've found that if I eat it before bed, I've been able to at least nix the issue of hb/reflux. It's never been one of my favorite fruits, but has quickly become my best friend. Other than that, I dunno what else we can do to get some decent sleep! The worst part, I think, is having to be up by myself at night - it's like my brain has more time to worry and go crazy without the distraction of other people. I also worry about the baby deciding to come when I'm too tired to labor - quite a scary thought, actually! I really try to make up for the lack of sleep with naps and I use a sleep mask during the day... seems to work as I can usually get a nap or 2 in, even in broad daylight. I feel like such a posh dork with my mask, but if I can get an extra couple hours of sleep in, it's worth it... maybe it would work for you too? Good luck hon and I'm sorry you're having such a rough time!!!!

wow... I'm sorry to hear that your having such a hard time. I am not having trouble sleeping but I do have heartburn. I eat tums like they are candy now. I have to get up to pee about 3-4 times a night, which is totally annoying. Plus, I am noticing that my actual content of pee at night is more than the volume that I pee in the day. It's really wierd!!!! Have you tried nexium or anything else? What has your doctor said? You might try going for a walk after you eat. That might help get some of the gas, acid reflux out.
