18-5-2008 - 35 weeks: hot and bothered hotMy mood while writing this blog:
hot

May 17th, 2007

i am a little behind on my weekly update, and i don't even know where to begin! pregnancy has been a roller coaster lately....so many climbing moments of fear, then dramatic changes of relief. this week has probably been the most emotional, hormonal, scary, confusing week yet, but i have a feeling i will sleep without worrying tonight.

lets see....tuesday i stayed home sick, i was stuffy, swollen, exhausted, feverish, emotional, and i had a dr. appointment anyway. i felt inside my heart something was wrong. while i was with the midwife i had this intuition that they were ignoring too many of my symptoms and wanted me "in and out" of there as soon as possible. the next day, the midwife called me at work and said that my urine had signs of protein in it (BAD!) and that my blood work showed that i had developed Hypertension. she told me to quit work, go home, and stay in bed. she also requested that i do a 24 hour urine test, so i had to pee in this ridiculous jug (and keep in refrigerated!) for 2 days. i could explain this all in more detail, but its really boring, just tests and more tests, bed rest, contractions, bad test results......

Oh and while all this is going on, its 100 DEGREES IN PORTLAND!!!! ugh, i wanted to die. not only am i swollen like a marshmallow man, i feel like i have a 60 pound sweater on that i can't take off. it gets worse! brian decides to put me on a "no salt, no sugar, raw, simple food diet" to try and lower my blood pressure. if you know me at all, you know i love my salt.....you know i keep a salt shaker on my night stand, so this diet was TORTURE. i was so miserable, i cried, i complained.....then i asked the midwife, she said "oh you don't need to do that....just eat normally, but don't go eat a bag of potato chips". brian googled "hypertension in pregnancy" and discovered there is no known treatment other than rest to help hypertension. we made up and went out for veggie burgers and fries after that:-).

so last night, friday night, it was looking like i was going to be induced because of all my test results. one problem- there's no room for me at the hospital- its full of laboring women. so we wait until the next day, went in for an evaluation, and my blood pressure went way down, my blood work and urine tests all look great. i'm put on bed rest for now, and they are going to keep a close eye on me. this is crazy- Gem could be here any day!!! even crazier, if Gem did come, it would be a healthy (tiny) baby! i can't believe we've made it this far. i hope i have it in me to keep on going.

Sounds like you've had a long week. When I went in for my appointment this past Friday, they stuck me in the hospital for a whole day because my blood pressure was up (which it has never been in my whole life), and then sent me home again because it went back down and my bloodwork came back normal. I don't think I've got more than a week to go though. I'm having another VBAC and the baby is measuring really large already, so I'm sort of hoping that I'll get to have him this Friday. Then I'll be back home in time to grill out on Memorial Day! I hope you're feeling better now. It's not going to drop under 80 degrees here (in the daytime) for at least the next week. I've been eating ice for several hours each day, and it really seems to help. (Sonic has the nice semi-eatable ice.) :-)

Hi There Kate - just thinking of you and hoping that all goes well at your appt. today. Don't worry about the weight. I gained 65 lbs with my first baby. Take care of yourself and gets lots of rest. Talk to you soon!

Hey Pix-
Wow girlfriend, almost there! I am so glad they didnt have to induce you yet even though you probably wish it was over. Thankfully the heat wave passed, huh? I tried to get to your first blog to see if you posted anything I hadn't read before starting this one and it seems to have disappeared, is it gone or am I just looking in the wrong places? I can't wait to see pics of your little cutie. It is such a mystery huh, what it will look like and everything. Having our first babies, I cant think of anything more amazing on earth. And for the patient few like yourself, even the sex is still a mystery, wow.
In the beginning I thought I was gettting big fast but have realized I am not big for my weeks now in terms of belly size but I have gained 22 lbs at 22 weeks which is frightening. I haven't posted any pics for a few weeks but now I am to the point that I can't button my "big" pants anymore in the morning and my belly hurts when I twist sideways or bend over too far. So...... here we go, ha ha. Pretty soon you'll be getting all skinny again and feeeling bad for me that I'm where you are at now. So did you end up getting everything you needed? If there is something you still need, I'll keep you in mind for if I am given 2 of something.
How do you deal with the sticky E oil and your sheets? Do you just fall asleep and forget about it? I hate sticky stuff but I hate stretch marks more :)

(((hugs)))
