Making canvas letters
Materials
Wooden Letters (dollar store)
Pre-stretched white canvas (framed to hang works best)
acrylic paints (dollar store!)
craft glue and/or craft tape (ask for scrapbook tape)
Scrapbook paper
Scrap book stickers/odds and ends to decorate with
First step
Paint your letters the colors you want. I suggest a solid color or solid with 1 accent since your paper will but busy. Two coats is best.
Second step
Paint your canvas sides the same color as your letters and paint about an inch inward on the top all around to leave a frame around your paper (as in you do not need to paint the whole top of the canvas since it will be covered anyway) - two coats is best
Third
Decide how you want your paper. Most scrap book paper has a busy side and a patterned accent side. You can either buy two peices or if your careful and thrifty get enough (depending on your canvas size) out of one. If you have never scrap booked before I suggest buying the extra peice you can always cut it up for accents, boarders etc.
Four
Cover the front of your canvis. I used the larger space for the letter on the patterened (less busy) side of the paper. Then accented with the busier part of the paper. (see pictures) SometimesI used three peices to make sort of a accent boarder between the two peices. Play with it and have fun!
HINT! If your two peices don't line up on width exacttly (like a little bit different) line up once side perfect and then put a scrap book sticker or decoration where the other two sides meet to hid the problem
Five
Decorate the rest of the page with peices of paper cut into shapes, stickers, objects, whatever. I use the tape for the main covering paper and use craft glue for anything I am sticking on. Make sure to keep enough room for your letter. I lay it out first and keep in mind where I want the letter.
Six.
Glue your letter on and your done!!
See my photos for images on my letters. Any questions feel free to ask!
