| 02-12-2010 - Abbie's one year checkup |
My mood while writing this blog: unsure... |
So i took miss Abbigail in for her one year check up today. Now she still has 19 days till her birthday but her DR. books months in advance and it was either today or February. Anyways, Abbie weighs 15 pounds 7 ozs and is 27.5 inches. She is in the 3rd percentile in weight and 10th in height. poor girl is so tiny..she is almost a year old and hasn't even doubled her BW yet.
She is still in size 2 diapers and 3-6 month clothes...well, sorta. the 3-6 fit her around the waist but she is to long so the pants turn into capri's or shorts. the 6-9 months fit her lengthwise but she is so small they won't stay up. Needless to say she wears a lot of stretchable type clothes, onesies and rompers. But she still wears a TON of cute clothes! We have 9-12 and 12 month clothes hanging in her closet for winter. We are hoping she will be able to fit them by next winter. LOL
She will go in on Dec 17th to get bloodwork done. A thyroid test, anemia test, bloodsugar test and they want to check her liver levels since they were slightly elevated when she became so sick and hospitalized. He is hoping that now that we know her prob and have been treating it, and otehr than her smaller than average size she is perfectly on target and there are no lasting effects, that he liver enzymes have also evened out. The reason why he wants to wait instead of doing bloodwork today was because Abbie got 5 shots today and doing bloodwork woulda been brutal on her.
He also wants her to stay on formula ( the Neocate) which is a high calorie-amino acid based formula for another 2-3 months. So she will not be able to go off formula like the original plan. He wants ehr to gain soem more first and doesn't think her body is quite ready for whole milk yet. He said it may throw her into shock and she could lose more weigh while the body adjusts. With a normal child that is fine, but for Abbie..every ounce lost is crucial. So he wants to see her gain more ( AT LEAST double her BW) before pulling her. He said its the best option in the long run,. Her next check up ( otehr than labs) is in March.. the 15 month mark. He said based on weight, etc that day we will go from there.
Oh..and she still can't hold a bottle or sippy. I asked him about it and since she does pick up objects, does transfer hand to hand and does self feed eh is not to alarmed. He said she has hit most milestones but is a little behind on a few things due to her previous health issues and catching up. If by March she is having issues they will test her muscle mass. But not to worry untill then.

Friday, 3 Dec Aww bless her! Emma's tiny too. (But she's only small because it's in her genes, she was born tiny and because of how much weight she lost as a baby because my breastmilk wasn't good enough.) She's almost 17 months old and only just in 6-9 month clothes. (Some of her bigger 3-6 months still fit her! Lol). People always have to do a double take when they see her running about talking because from the size of her she looks like she should only just be sitting up unsupported! Glad Abbigail is doind so well in all other areas, poor little lamb having to have all that blood taken. :0/ Hope it all goes okay! xxx
