| 25-10-2009 - Help please - Emily-Rose WONT take a bottle |
My mood while writing this blog: Worried |
Hi ladies
Im not sure if I mentioned but in a few weeks (after my scan on 10th Nov) I should be going in to get my cyst (I have named Cyril) drained. It should only be a day patient thing, but I may have to stay in overnight. I will obviously need to be given various drugs.
In preparation I have been expressing some milk and trying to give it to Emily-Rose so she can eat whilst I am in hospital. She will absolutely NOT have it!! Even though I know she is hungry, she will not accept the teat. I have changed bottles to try that and Steve has also tried with no luck. Any ideas?
Thanks all, Rach x x x (and naughty Miss Emily) x

Sunday, 25 Oct Try the playtex bottles with the drop in liners. The nipple is bigger and it feels somewhat like a boob. Good luck dear. katey25 -
Sunday, 25 Oct Try looking at the nipple on the bottle and get one that matches your own.. so if you're lucky enough to have nipples you can hang coathangers off, look at avent etc but if you have flatter ones then look to closer to nature from tommee tippee. Also get your other half to feed her as she wont be able to smell the milk from you. Look up baby whisperer nipple confusion x trinity -
Sunday, 25 Oct Esme still gives problems on taking the bottle. But I tried every day just an oz and after some persistent on my part she took it. I also think she takes it better for me then my mil. You can also try a medicine dropper. Just squirt in her mouth like you are giving her med. I don't think she started taking it till she was over 2 mos. Good luck I know it is hard. proud.mummy.of.3xxx -

Sunday, 25 Oct I had the same problem with my daughter it turned out if i was out of room and my husband gave it to her she took it no problems. If i tried to give it she wouldnt take it at all. Have you tried closer to nature bottles? different teats can sometimes work too does she have a dummy? faster flowing teats helped for me. Could you ask at breastfeeding group. christinesc -
Sunday, 25 Oct I have to use a nipple shield on one of mine, and I had a hard time getting James to take it. My lactation nurse told me to squirt some milk onto the nipple. It worked but it took a little while. She'll get it in time. Don't worry. xx hopefuldj -
Sunday, 25 Oct Babies who refuse to bottle feed can often be fed with a small, soft cup. Also, sometimes being fed by someone when mommy isn't around, and in a different position than used in when nursing, can help. With Zoë we had to squirt some milk from the bottle into her mouth before she realize what she was supposed to do. Hope some of this helps - good luck with the feeding and with the surgery!
