| 18-8-2009 - First Midwife Appointment - 16 weeks | My mood while writing this blog:FAN-BLOODY-TASTIC |
I feel wonderful. I have felt excellent physically throughout my pregnancy so far, but today I just feel so happy I am close to bursting into tears at the wonder and gratitude I feel right now.
I had my first midwife appointment today, and I can't express how special this woman made me feel.
Of course she asked me all the usual questions about my, my families, Chris' and his families medical history, and she went through my previous ultrasounds and blood test results, but the way she treated me was just wonderful, we sat talking like she had all the time in the world to give me, and me being so anxious all the time, well, she's really given me some peace.
She felt my tummy for a long time, and talked the whole time, telling me what she was feeling and how she could feel the baby sitting just below my belly button. She spent a long time with the doppler, and once she found the heartbeat she spent a long time getting it louder and clearer for me and even asked if it was OK to take it off now, as she could surely see the relief on my face when she found the heartbeat, and didn't want to take it off to early.
She explained everything and anything and even told me I should lie back after dinner at night and cup my stomach to try and feel kicks as she could hear a lot of kicks on the doppler and she said she's sure it won't be long now until I feel them too.
She gave me so much stuff to take home, heaps of free samples and magazines and of course all the information leaflets and pampflets answering every question I could think of, and ones I didn't know to ask.
She explained all the different paths you can take with your pregnancy in terms of care, and I've signed up for the Amity Midwife Team at Redcliffe Hospital. Basically, it's a team of 6 midwives who all work on a roster, and one of them sees you for every appointment and they'll be there through labour, and come and visit you at home after you take the baby home. They believe in natural care and childbirth, and she stressed the importants of body contact as soon as the baby is born and breastfeeding etc. They only take a certain amount of women who are due during the same week so I am REALLY hoping I get in. The beauty of it is that it's all at the hospital, so if something should go wrong (God forbid!) the Dr's are right there.
I tell ya, I could have kissed this woman, it seems to me to be an omen, as her name was Jennifer and that's the name we've picked if we have a girl. GOD BLESS HER!
I can't wait to get home from work and read all the stuff I've been given.
On another note, I finally bought some maternity bras as my boobs were really popping out the top and sides of my old ones all of a sudden. OMG - they are the most comfortable thing I have ever worn! They're so supportive and they don't even have wires!
My belly is getting quite big now. I know it's going to get so much bigger but I am actually LOOKING preggas now (well, to me anyways!). I just won a pair of maternity jeans on ebay.
And YES - I'm feeling confident now and I'm going to get suck into the babies room! WOO HOO! I've already decided on light green as the colour scheme. I really need a single bed for the room, and I've got the bedding for it already, it's light green with little cute grasshoppers and ladybeetles and such on it - great for either boy or girl.
I feel like saying "I LOVE YOU ALL". I am drunk with love and gratitude for my baby.
Happy Days everyone!
Love Tanya.
