24-8-2009 - Surprise Ultrasound: Part 2 Fine & dandy! My mood while writing this blog:
Fine & dandy!

SOOOOO, I went for the scan this morning. I was told that the baby doesn't develop enough before 18 weeks for them to get a look at the heart properly, and they usually like the scan to be done at closer to 19 or 20 weeks. I explained that I clearly reminded the lady on the phone who called that I was only 17 weeks, and I had also tried to change the appointment to a later date. We did the scan, but I could tell that the Dr who was doing it wasn't overjoyed about me being less than 18 weeks, but I know he wasn't annoyed at me, just the ladies who make the appointments.

So he did measure everything and show me the stomach, head, arms, legs, kidneys etc etc, and we did see the baby opening and closing it's mouth which was priceless, but then he took the doppler thingie off and said "OK, I need to see you back again in two or three weeks" and wiped my tummy off. I didn't even get to ask if he could see the sex, and he didn't seem to try and see either, which I'm spewing about!

He said that all looked normal for 17 & a half weeks, and not to worry about anything, it's just that there's a reason they do the scan after 18 weeks and it's a shame he couldn't get his heart measurments today.

Chris was very happy because he doesn't want to know the sex, and definately didn't want me to know and not him!

So now I have to go back again on the 16th September. I HAD an appointment with a private clinic on the 9th, but stupid too honest for her own good ME, cancelled it! I am so dying to know! I can't help it.

So all is good, but life is trying to teach me something I think!

Dr's are such buggers when it comes to scans. You think you'd be a happy person getting to see wee little babies on the screen all day but nooo. The guy I had that did the scan with my daughter acted so annoyed the whole time I thought there was something wrong with her, and he wouldn't check for the sex at all for me even after I asked...It was a terrible experience. I go to a different hospital for my scans for this pregnancy, cause I was in tears with the other one,Hopefully you do find out the sex at your next appointment, if they say they can't tell you...They are able to note it so your doctor can, if so push for that

That Dr sounded like a jerk! I see different Dr’s & midwifes each visit & some are jerks & some are nice, don’t let anything anyone says to you get you down. Your lucky you had a scan that early & you get to see your little munchkin again so soon!! I don’t think I get anymore scans  so make sure you make the most of them. Are you finding out the sex? I wanted to know but my partner persuaded me to not know & I’m kind of glad I didn’t because it feels even more exciting! Take care x

I go for my scan on the 16th too! I'm glad he said everything was normal. That is good. And you got to peek at the baby that is great!

The same thing happened to me, but that was because we didn't know how far along I was. It turned out I was in my 18th week at the time and now have to go back next week for another u/s for the stuff they couldn't measure right. No one at they u/s was annoyed because they knew I was there to see how far along I was. I just look at it this way. We get to see I little ones more. I can live with that.

I'd be pretty upset about that whole thing! Hope you get the queen bee treatment at your next scan!

How frustrating! My ob told me to book my scan for when I'm 19 weeks, but when I called up to book it they said they like to do them at 20 weeks (or at least closer to 20 weeks than 19 weeks). Anyway, I had my appointment to see my ob at 20 weeks, so they had to do it a few days before. I'll be about 19 1/2 weeks when it's done, so hopefully I won't have the problems you had. Sometimes people are just incompetant! Shame you couldn't find out the sex though... And by the way, I'm one of those 'too honest for their own good' people too, and it doesn't get us anywhere!!

I'm am so annoyed for you! I have my scan this Friday. I had to get it done the day before I am officially 18 weeks because I'm off to the UK this weekend for 3 weeks. I was told I couldn't have my ultrasound after I get back (around 21 1/2 weeks). I hope they don't tell me I have to come back - because I can't!
