| 18-12-2008 - 40 years old today | My mood while writing this blog:feel lucky |
So many things are happening today. it is my 40th birthday. My baby turns 3 months old, or 13 weeks old. My daughter's last day at primary school and my mum is coming down from another state to see us and spend Xmas with us. Plus my dad is having a barbeque dinner for me with the family tonight.
I guess I feel lucky because at 40, I am the mother of 4 children and one is 3 months old. I am immensely proud of my kids especially my little bubba who is growing so much. Last night I went through some of his clothes and realised the 000's come up to his knees when you line them up with the shoulder so I have put them away and he already wears 0's and 00's. He just seems to have grown so much even in the last two weeks. And my little bubba woke up at 4.45am last night. Actually it was getting light outside and I hadnt heard a peep so I went to check on him and just brought him in with me, even though he hadnt woken up.
He has begun to bat at toys hanging in front of him on his rocker and everything is headed for his mouth. He will suck on anything but mostly likes his own hand the best but has been known to suck on clothes, other peoples fingers and my arm and neck if he is in close proximity. He is talking heaps and is very deliberate in his talking - he says things like goo, and ha noises which is all I can remember right now. I have noticed his stomach muscles are great and he can pull his legs up and twist his body so that he is on his side. He laughs so much - just little ones in response to anything you might say to him and things you do like tickle him and make funny noises. But I have to say he must just love being alive as he will giggle and smile at nothing and when no one is interacting with him. His sleeping is still brilliant and he is very predictable with his tired signs, although I am not sure if he is in a routine. I try to bathe him between 5 and 8 each night and he either has a bath or a shower with me. The other day I tried the laundry tub which was good for me but as he is not yet sitting he has to be held lying down and he is too big and kicks back which risks his head hitting the end, so probably not the best solution. As far as times, I wouldnt have a clue what time he should be down, I just read him. Usually he will yawn and so I wrap him up and put him down. he has been starting to cry when I wrap him up lately but I try putting him down and if he still cries, I will pick him up, give him a 5 minute cuddle and try again which usually works. Other times he just goes off without a grizzle. And the last two afternoons he has fallen asleep in our laps. I can tell by the way he looks at the girls that he loves them so much and the love just pours back to him. He really is a major blessing in this house.
My hubby excelled himself, after telling me that after the rings, there would be no other presents, he gave me diamond earrings and a Jamie Oliver frypan. The girls got me some bathing things for myself like soaps, loofahs, lotions and bath bombs etc and I had pancakes in bed!
I went to the last day assembly at the school which was very emotional for my daughter. I had to leave as I had left bubby at home asleep and had to come home to feed him but I am sure by the end of the day there would have been a lot of tears flowing.
In other news two families of children I used to look after came over for a visit yesterday which was nice.
The reason I feel lucky and will never be ashamed of my age is that when I was about 10, I was knocked over by a car. it is really bizarre what happened but it happened in front of my whole family. We were crossing a road and instead of going back I went forward, ta-king off from my dad's hand and walked in between a moving car and caravan. I fell down and the caravan's wheels did not run over me somehow. I guess I was lying with my head toward the tow bar and my feet toward the back of the caravan. I was airlifted to intensive care to a hospital in the city and was in a coma for 2 weeks. The only thing I suffered was 2 black eyes and a fractured skull, so in reality I could have been dead, could easily have died or had lasting injuries but I walk around today with all my faculties except a bad memory which could be attributed to anything I guess.
Anyway that is my spiel for today
and I am glad to be here, 40 and all.
