29-7-2009 - Blood work results.. slightly anxiousMy mood while writing this blog:
slightly anxious

Well, I got my blood work results back today. My HCG levels are fine. I will have it checked again tomorrow to make sure they are going up as normal.

My numbers for blood clotting has not gone up. In fact they have gone down compared to when I had blood drawn at 5 weeks - down from 49 to 23. In Australia they didn't consider these numbers alarming and anything we had to react to. Apparently American doctors have a very different opinion. The nurse who called me said they want to get me started on both mini aspirin and daily lovenox shots! That was pretty overwhelming news! I am surprised at this approach after what I've been told in Australia but if it necessary then it's necessary and of course anything to keep my little baby. Hopefully this is just what is needed to make this a successful pregnancy. They also want to start me on a natural progesterone which apparently is a supplement they normally put their patients on.

I had a doctor appointment scheduled for next Friday but fortunately they have moved the appointment forward one week so I will be seeing a doctor in two days and he will go through all this stuff with me (and my husband) and get me started on the treatment.

I am glad that when I went in for the initial blood work on Tuesday that I asked that they checked my blood clotting numbers as well. It wasn't on the list to check.. At least now my situation is being taken seriously and I am being cared for.

I appreciate everyone's support and prayers.

I will be on lovenox when we get pregnant. Actually I have to take the shots when I fly or am driving on a trip and will be sitting for long time periods. It's not too bad. I actually give myself the shot in the tummy. Glad they tested it, this will be good for you and that little bean.

Glad to hear that. I'm on aspirin now and I was on Lovenox during my pregnancy. It's something to get used to. DH gave me the shots in my (lovehandles) upper bum area every day at the same time. As long as you ice the spot before hand for a couple of mins .... u won't feel a thing!! Good luck girlie... I'm praying for you. ((Hugs)) Sam

Oh, I am so glad that it sounds like you are in good hands. I don't know yet if the clotting is one of my problems or not -- but I have friends that need to do what you're describing. and it has made all the difference for them and their babies! What a blessing. You take good care, dear one, and if you need anything let me know. I will pray for you and your sweet baby.

That's one of the tests they are going to run on me to see if it's a problem with me. Take care of yourself and that little bean hun!!!

I do not have any experience with this, but am glad that you seem to be getting well taken care of and that they will be following your pregnancy closely. Were your progesterone levels low? Is this why they are starting you on Progesterone?

You will be in my prayers. I've never had that experience but then I'm diabetic and I have a whole bunch of birth defects that follow me around with that alone, and it was very overwhelming when i was pregnant with my 1st. But at least the dr are taking precautionso in 7 mo you will be holding that beautiful baby.

Hi, with my last pregnancy I had blood clots so this pregnancy I have taken baby asprin the whole pregnancy to thin my blood. I also had to take the progesterone vaginally the first 12 weeks then at 16 weeks I get the shots once a week. I know the information seems so overwhelming. With my pregnancy right now I have done things I had never even had to do with my last. So glad though the dr. is making you a concern and getting right on it instead making you wait. You will be in my prayers and please let me know how your appt goes and if you ever need to chat I am here.
