03-11-2009 - Week 22 and H1N1 at peaceMy mood while writing this blog:
at peace

I had a doctor appointment today and so got to listen to baby K's heart beat - nice and strong, 150. It is such a beautiful sound! My blood pressure was 139/76 and hopefully it won't keep going up. In my first pregnancy it got up to 150/90. For some reason my pulse was quite normal, only 68, which was strange as I have measured it the last couple of weeks and it was about 105. But I am glad it was so low today. I have gained a fair bit of weight this past month, 6 lb. That means I have gained 12 lb in total. I don't think I am eating much extra because I am pregnant and gaining much weight other than on my belly (and maybe my behind :) I feel like I already look 30 weeks pregnant - my belly is so big. I will make sure to take another bump picture soon.

I talked to my doctor about the H1N1 vaccine which he really recommends but he said that they didn't have any in at the moment but hopefully in a few days. But as I was making my next appointment at the front desk my doctor came and told me they just got the vaccines in and I could have one now. I asked him if it has squalene in it and he couldn't answer that so he went and got an information pamphlet from the actual box of vaccines. It didn't give a list of ingredients so I called the actual manufacturer and after having talked to 3 people there they could tell me it didn't have squalene. While waiting for the vaccine to get ready I kept reading through the pamphlet as well as signing a consent for my office. Then I read in the pamphlet that because there is no studies on the vaccine is it should be given to pregnant women only if clearly needed!! It even said that caution should be administered when given to nursing moms. This really surprised me because both groups are being told that getting the vaccine is highly recommended. I just finished reading that when my nurse called me back in for the vaccine. I walked in the door and then just started crying!! I couldn't hold back the tears. There were two nurses there and they both said 'no one is forcing this upon you, maybe you should take some more time to think about it'. I explained how hard I was trying to keep this baby safe and I just don't want to do anything that will harm this baby and no one knows how this vaccine affects babies. My nurse said that she understands this is really hard for me and that I shouldn't get the vaccine today if it upsets me so much and then the other nurse tore up my consent. I felt an immediate sense of relief. I just can't do this! I will just have to be careful wherever I go and pray for God's protection - like I have throughout this pregnancy. I surely don't blame anyone for getting the vaccine, I respect either decision, and now I have made mine.

I love feeling my little boy kicking. Some days he kicks really strongly and makes my whole belly jump and other times they are just tiny kicks. Sometimes he decides to kick straight down on my cervix which is not all that comfortable, but I'll take the bad kicks with the good ones.

I had some issues with my Lovenox (blood thinning injections) where I would get lots and lots of bruises and hard lumps and be very sore, but after having done some more research online (thank God for the internet) I have found ways to bruise less and I almost look normal again :)

We still haven't decided on a name. We have a fairly long list but can't agree on any :) I would like Kaden or Karter. My husband wants Kai. We have also talked about Kaziah. And on one VERY late night we even talked about Kazz. I know we still got a fair bit of time to decide but I would like to call this baby by name rather than just baby K. One of these days!

I am otherwise doing really well at the moment. I feel good physically and positive mentally. Can't wait to hold this little boy when he arrives in March - what an amazing day that will be!!

Love to all!
Karin

Hi Karin, sounds like everything is going really well. I can totally understand your fear regarding the H1N1; you did the right thing. God will watch over you two and you will be holding that beautiful boy very soon. Hope all is well; ps, I like Kaden or Kai! :)

I am glad that you made the decision that you did. If you in anyway are questioning something it is better not to do it until you are 100% committed to it!! I got the flu shot this year, really only because I am a nurse and have direct contact with patients on a daily basis but the only other option I had was to wear a mask from October to March! I plan to get the flu shot for the kiddos but am thinking that with as new as this new H1N1 vaccine is, I don't think I am ready to experiment with it yet. And like you, if I was pregnant I don't think I would probably get it either. My friend is a nurse also in Atlanta and she works the ICU and says they have been getting alot of pregnant patients with H1N1 lately so I don't know if that means being pregnant makes you more prone to it or if these women were just exposed just like anyone else. Oh and also I was at work tonight and one of the Pulmonalogist was talking about whether you have had the shot or not, it could mutate to a different strain and you could get it again anyways just llke the flu. So, just keep yourself safe and make sure everyone around you uses good handwashing and make the sick people stay away!!! =) take care!!

Mothers intuition is best! If it made you that nervous then I'm glad you didn't get it. No one in my family is getting the vaccine, I am the kind of person that likes building up immunities. Like you, I totally support other peoples decision to get it, but for me, I'll pass. I'm glad little man is doing so well!!!!

Karin ~ you do what you want to do for you & baby K. I've been debating whether or not get the flu or the H1N1. I think it's been blown way out of wack. Sending you love & peace - Sam

I'm proud of you. I can't believe the package said that. Wow! I know it's been hard for you, me too. Something is fishy on why they want to get this vaccine in so many people when less people have died yearly from H1N1 then the seasonal flu. I really do believe there some human experiments going on now. There is a chance of health problems from the vaccine or other viruses being pumped into our systems. That's why they keep saying on the news no bad side effects so far. So far!! And they are talking about short term side effects!!! They don't know long time effects, cause the studies haven't been done long enough. I would want yrs of studies before I inject myself. I would want to know all these babies won't have problems after age 5 or as adults. In the 50's the polio vaccine had a chance of injecting leukemia and it did. They still used it to save lives. They are willing to take a chances to see if it works. I'm not w/ my baby. God will protect us! It's changed my way of life. I'm constantly washing and using sanitizer. Buy lysol and spray it on door knobs and hard surfaces. My husband does all the shopping so I don't have to go into stores. I only go to the doctors and close friends houses after I ask them if they are still healthy. I only take my son to the lake where he can run around in the grass w/ my friends instead of the playground. We go to see mountain views and nature stuff. Which we love any ways. I read the bible every Sabbath and do a online church service. I pray that YHWH will keep us safe mama.

I think you made an excellent decision re: H1N1. I strongly believe that everyone needed to make their own choice for it. It is nice when you finally make a decision. I know i had that sense of relieve after i made mine. Good luck with the name choice. :)
