Dear friends
This still feels unreal to say, but Kaden Joshua has made his arrival!!! He is laying resting on my chest while I am trying to write this. He was born on February 18th at 10.10 pm.
So much for 'worrying' about getting my membranes stripped and being induced, he had his own opinion on when to arrive. Thankfully he waited until the day after my mom arrived from Denmark!! I started feeling contractions at 4.30 pm although at this stage I was unsure if it was really contractions, or just him dropping or a bad stomach ache, but at 6.30 I decided this had to be labor and so we took off to the hospital. Thankfully my bag was almost packed even though I was not expecting him yet. We got to the hospital at 7 pm and I was already 6 cm dilated. I did not expect that either! The contractions were then 3 min apart and it was all back labor. I had back labor with my first but he was also posterior - this little guy was in perfect position, but I guess I am just doomed to have back labor. It is so painful and I wouldn't wish it upon anyone. I had a bit of pain medicine but couldn't have an actual epidural at this stage due to me being on blood thinning medicine. I took the medicine at 9 am and that meant I could have an epidural at 9 pm - which I did!! At that stage the doctor had broken my water and I was 7 cm dilated and contractions were less than 2 min apart which basically meant I had about 20 sec of breathing space between them. The epidural did wonders though!! It took affect around 9.30. At 10 I was fully dilated (10 cm) and at 10.10 I was told to push 3 times with the next contraction. 1 1/2 pushes and he was out! I couldn't believe it. With Kaleb I pushed for 45 min! I did need some stitching but that's okay. Kaden is perfect in every way and so beautiful. He was born at 37 weeks and 6 days. He weighed 6lb and 4oz, so not particularly big - gestational diabetes definitely didn't affect him. He is 19 inches long. He is doing great and so am I. We will probably be in the hospital until Saturday - so a bit more than 24 hours. I just can't stop staring at him. It is still hard for me to believe he is here and real.
I am so so happy and I praise God. Never stop believing in His miracles. All things are possible. I am holding the proof right now.
And yes, I have had some chocolate :)
