14-10-2009 - Update.

My mood while writing this blog:
Relieved.

I just wanted to thank everyone for all of their advice and let you all know how it went. I spoke with my mom today while I was on lunch. I told her that my husband was still a little worried about letting anyone but my Dad watch them and that I didn't want her to be offended because it wasn't just her but anyone that he didn't want watching them. I made it sound as if it was only him that was nervous about it so that she doesn't know that I don't think she does a great job of parenting. I think that it would really crush her to know that I think that and there's no point in hurting her in that way if I don't have to. But I also explained that my husband is just a worrier and that he doesn't specifically have anything against her taking care of our kids but that he's worried about anyone watching them (not true but I also don't want their relationship to be strained). I then told her that I talked to him about the fact that eventually we are going to have to let her watch them and that he understood that. But that it would make him feel better if we worked into it slowly by having her come over often and also getting together and discussing all of the little things that she needs to know about taking care of them because it would make him feel better. And maybe even start out by watching one at a time (which I think is a good idea because the two of them at once is very overwhelming). Anyway, basically I'm a big liar. But I honestly believe that sometimes it's better to lie. We accomplished what we needed to and we didn't have to hurt her. She's going to slowly work into watching them and we're going to be able to talk about what we want and I didn't have to tell her that we feel as though she's screwed up in the past or that she's not a good parent. I really appreciate all of your advice. It definitely helped me to take a step back and look at the situation from several perspectives. If I had attempted to handle this before hearing all of your ideas, I think it could have gone really badly. So thank you again!!!

Glad you are relieved. they are your children adn you have to do what you have to do for thier best interests...even if it meant telling a lie :) I would have done the same thing. Hope things continue to go well.

So glad everything worked out and you're right sometimes lying is ok.... I totally understand and I think you did things the best way possible. Hope everything works out when she starts looking after them and I agree that one at a time for the start is probably the best x x x

Well done! You did a great job and I think you're right - a little fib is sometimes better then the truth - no need to hurt her needlessly!! I'm really glad it worked out!!
